Frequently asked questions

Who is the Influencing Skills and Persuasiveness course suitable for?
The course is suitable for specialists, experts, managers and (new) internal and external advisers who want to exert influence more confidently and effectively. No specific prior education is required. The course works with a maximum group size of eight participants, so that you can practise with your own practical situations and influencing style in a safe setting.
Which topics are covered in the Influencing Skills and Persuasiveness course?
In the Influencing Skills and Persuasiveness course you learn, among other things, how to negotiate, speak in a motivating way, deal with resistance and apply push and pull energy. You also gain insight into unconscious influencing techniques such as framing and priming, setting boundaries and giving feedback. You finish with a personal action plan for immediate application in practice.
Is prior knowledge required for the Influencing Skills and Persuasiveness course?
No, no specific prior knowledge is required for the Influencing Skills and Persuasiveness course. The classroom course is suitable for specialists, managers and (junior) advisers who want to strengthen their persuasiveness. Beforehand, an intake takes place in which your learning objectives are discussed, so that the programme matches your situation and experience.
What is the group size and delivery format of the Influencing Skills and Persuasiveness course?
The course is taught in a classroom setting in a small group of no more than eight participants. This limited group size ensures sufficient personal attention, room to practise with real-life situations and a safe learning environment. Prior to the course, an intake takes place so that your learning objectives can be incorporated into the programme.
Do you receive a certificate after the Influencing Skills and Persuasiveness course?
Yes, after the Influencing Skills and Persuasiveness course you receive a certificate of participation. This certificate shows that you took an active part in both course days and practised the skills covered, such as negotiating, dealing with resistance and communicating in a motivating way. The course material is included.
What is the difference between this course and a course in assertiveness or negotiation?
Influencing Skills and Persuasiveness is broader than a purely assertiveness or negotiation course. Assertiveness focuses mainly on setting boundaries and standing up for yourself. Negotiating is about reaching an agreement between parties with differing interests. This classroom-based course combines both and adds elements such as push and pull energy, framing and priming, motivating at group level, dealing with resistance and changing attitudes. You work from the win-win principle and the premise of 'hard on the content, soft on the relationship'. The course is therefore suitable if you not only want to defend your position or close a deal, but want to exert influence on colleagues, clients or teams on a structural basis. You finish with a personal action plan.
How quickly can I apply the influencing techniques from this course in my day-to-day work?
The course is built around immediate applicability. You practise with realistic work situations during the course and finish with a personal action plan, so that the very next day you can start experimenting with techniques such as pushing and pulling energy, framing or the principle of 'tough on the content, gentle on the relationship'. Expect simple techniques (asking questions when you meet resistance, deliberately switching between perspectives) to become routine within a week. More complex skills such as negotiating from interests or changing attitudes require more repetition. Count on several weeks of conscious practice in real conversations. The small group of no more than eight participants ensures you get enough practice time per technique, which speeds up the transfer to everyday practice compared with larger classroom courses.
What makes this course different from an online course or a book on influencing, such as Cialdini?
A book or online course gives you theory and models, but no feedback on your own behaviour. In this classroom-based course you practise influencing techniques in a group of no more than eight participants, with direct feedback from the trainer and fellow participants. You experiment live with push and pull energy, framing, dealing with resistance and negotiating from win-win situations. Before the course there is an intake to incorporate your learning objectives into the programme, something self-study does not offer. On day two you draw up a personal action plan for application in your work. Choose self-study if you mainly want to acquire knowledge; choose this course if you genuinely want to change your behaviour and approach with guidance.
