  • "I experienced the Delegating course at Learnit as very positive. A major plus in my view is that the course was given to a small group of participants, which meant there was plenty of room to go into each participant's own cases from their working practice. The trainer prepared the course in a positive way, inspired the group and taught me an approach that is practical to apply. I am very satisfied with the communication with Learnit and the information I received from Learnit."

Frequently asked questions

Who is the Delegating course suitable for?
The Delegating course is suitable for team leaders, managers and professionals who find it difficult to hand over tasks or who want to spend more time on their core duties. The course is also a good fit if you want to make use of new development opportunities for your staff or give yourself more freedom of movement. You work in a group of no more than eight participants, so there is room for personal guidance.
Which topics are covered in the Delegating course?
In the Delegating course you cover four core themes: the art of delegating (including advantages, disadvantages and pitfalls), delegating and monitoring (which task goes to which colleague), fundamental conversation techniques and creating engagement. You learn to share responsibility, assign authority, set boundaries, direct, coach and follow up on agreements made. The course is taught in a classroom setting in a small group.
How is the Delegating course taught and how large are the groups?
The Delegating course is taught in a classroom setting, with a maximum group size of eight participants. This small group means you receive plenty of personal attention and room to practise new skills. An intake takes place beforehand, in which the trainer discusses your learning objectives and tailors the programme accordingly. In this way the course matches your situation and role.
What results does the Delegating course deliver?
After the Delegating course you know how to define expectations clearly and find the right balance between control and trust. You recognise where new development opportunities lie for colleagues, can instruct assertively and specifically, and keep a grip on the process without doing the work yourself. In this way you create more engaged staff and free up time for your core tasks.
Can the Delegating course also be taken in-company?
Yes, the Delegating course is also available as an in-company course. The programme is then tailored to the practical situation within your organisation and the learning objectives of the team. An intake with the trainer takes place beforehand, so that topics such as task distribution, conversation techniques and engagement match your context. The classroom-based set-up of remains the starting point.
When should you choose a Delegation course rather than reading a book or taking an online course?
A book or e-learning works fine if you want to understand the theory: what delegating is, what the pitfalls are and which conversation structures you can use. A classroom-based course of is useful when the sticking point is not knowledge but behaviour. Many managers know they should let go, but in practice they do not. In the course you actually practise instructing, transferring responsibility and holding progress and feedback conversations, with direct feedback from a trainer and a maximum of eight participants. You get a sharp picture of your own patterns and pitfalls, something self-study cannot offer. So choose the course if you notice that you keep holding on to tasks, want to break micromanagement behaviour or find it difficult to set clear expectations. For pure theory a book will do; for behavioural change it will not.
How do I know whether the Delegating course suits my situation, and when is it still too early to attend?
The Delegating course suits you if you have a management or coordinating role in which you structurally do too much yourself. Concrete signs: you regularly work overtime because you do not let go of tasks, your staff are not growing as quickly as you would like, or you do not get round to your core strategic tasks. The course is classroom-based with a maximum of eight participants. You work on task selection, conversation techniques, setting clear expectations and the balance between control and trust. It is too early if you are not yet managing a team or staff to whom you can hand over tasks, or if your formal role does not yet allow you to delegate responsibility. In that case, a course in basic management skills or self-management is a better fit.
What is the difference between Learnit's Delegating course and a general leadership course?
A general leadership course usually treats delegating as one element alongside vision, motivation and feedback. Learnit's Delegating course focuses entirely on that single theme: which tasks you hand over, to whom, how you give instructions and how you keep control and trust in balance. You work through four blocks: the art of delegating, delegating and monitoring, conversation techniques and creating engagement. The group has a maximum of eight participants and the trainer tailors the programme through an intake. Choose a broader leadership course if you also want to practise coaching, developing a vision or team development. Choose this course if you are specifically getting stuck on letting go of tasks and want to learn specific conversation techniques and criteria for doing so.
