In the Lean Six Sigma Orange Belt course you learn how to lead small improvement projects independently using DMAIC, Kaizen, 5S and Value Stream Mapping.
As an Orange Belt you manage simple improvement projects yourself and make a solid contribution to larger projects under a Green or Black Belt. You learn to apply the Lean Six Sigma methodology practically to your own processes.
The Orange Belt is the logical intermediate step between Yellow Belt and Green Belt. You go deeper into the theory behind Lean Six Sigma and practise with the tools you use in an improvement project. By the end of the course you understand how Lean and Six Sigma reinforce each other and you know how to take a small project from start to finish.
On day 1 you lay the foundations. You explore the philosophy behind Lean Six Sigma, refresh your knowledge of DMAIC and get to work with Kaizen, 5S and Value Stream Mapping. Through process simulations you experience how these tools work in practice.
On day 2 you go deeper into the DMAIC cycle and link each phase to the right tool. You learn to work with flow and takt time, and discover the difference between push and pull production within Lean Manufacturing.
After the course you know how Lean and Six Sigma tools work to improve processes and how a Lean project is structured. You apply the techniques at Orange Belt level, carry out small process improvements independently and monitor your own projects. You recognise hidden waste and variation, solve problems using DMAIC and contribute effectively to larger Green or Black Belt projects. You also understand what Lean Manufacturing means for production strategy and are well prepared for the official Orange Belt exam.
This course is intended for anyone who wants to improve work processes with Lean Six Sigma. Think of managers, employees and self-employed professionals who want to carry out small improvement projects independently or contribute to a Green or Black Belt project. Teams getting started with Lean Six Sigma together will also find a strong basis here.
Theory and practice alternate throughout. In practice-based assignments and process simulations, you apply the Lean principles directly to recognisable situations. This way you immediately see how the tools and techniques will work in your own job. You work in a small group under the guidance of an experienced trainer and receive a Learnit certificate of participation afterwards.
No specific prior education is required to take part. Basic knowledge of Lean Six Sigma at Yellow Belt level is a useful starting point, but not compulsory.
The course is given in Dutch as standard. The trainer speaks English. English-language course materials can be used. If at least 3 participants register, the course can also be given entirely in English.
Plan your own group on a date that suits you, at your office, at our premises or online. We tailor the content to your day-to-day work, and training a whole group is cheaper than individual bookings.

"Enjoyable and instructive course. A good balance between knowledge transfer and practical exercises. Very practically applicable in my own work."
Lean Six Sigma Orange Belt is a level within the Lean Six Sigma methodology that enables you to lead small improvement projects independently. In terms of depth it sits between Yellow Belt and Green Belt. As an Orange Belt you master the core tools such as DMAIC, Kaizen, 5S and Value Stream Mapping, and apply these to your own work processes.
Yellow Belt gives you the basic knowledge of Lean Six Sigma. With Orange Belt you carry out small improvement projects independently. Green Belt focuses on larger projects involving statistical analysis, and Black Belt is the highest operational level for complex, organisation-wide projects. Orange Belt is therefore the logical stepping stone to Green Belt.
The course is suitable for managers, employees and freelancers who want to improve work processes with Lean Six Sigma. Teams that want to work on Lean Six Sigma together will also find a strong basis here. You do not need any specific prior education.
No, no specific prior knowledge is required. If you have already completed a Yellow Belt course or are familiar with the basic concepts of process improvement, that helps. But you can join without that background too, because we cover the fundamentals thoroughly on day 1.
DMAIC stands for Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control. It is the structured approach you use within Lean Six Sigma to improve processes. You first define the problem, measure the current situation, analyse the causes, implement improvements and safeguard the result. During the Orange Belt course you apply DMAIC directly in assignments and simulations.
You learn the philosophy behind Lean and Six Sigma, the 8 forms of waste and how to use tools such as Kaizen, 5S and Value Stream Mapping. You explore the DMAIC cycle in depth and learn to work with flow, takt time and the difference between push and pull production. Afterwards you can carry out small improvement projects independently.
Yes, on successful completion you receive a Learnit certificate of participation. The course also prepares you well for the official Lean Six Sigma Orange Belt exam, which you can sit separately from the course at an examination institute.
Lean Six Sigma can be applied in virtually any sector where processes run: from manufacturing and logistics to healthcare, financial services and government. As an Orange Belt you recognise waste in your daily work, map out processes and carry out targeted improvements. In this way you deliver measurable results on the work floor straight away.
The 8 forms of waste (also known as TIMWOODS) are: Transport, Inventory, Motion, Waiting, Overproduction, Overprocessing, Defects and Skills (untapped talent). By recognising these, you can remove waste from your processes in a targeted way.
Yes, the Lean Six Sigma Orange Belt course is also available in-company. In that case we tailor the content to the processes and challenges within your organisation. Contact us for the options and a tailored quotation.
Theory and practice alternate throughout. You work in a small group under the guidance of an experienced trainer and get started straight away with assignments and process simulations. This means you experience during the course itself how the Lean tools work and how to apply them in your own work.
