Cheaper alternative - Parking Oosterdok (Oosterdokstraat 150)
The entrance is beneath the Amsterdam Conservatorium. This is at the rear of the Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam. On Oosterdokseiland, follow the signs for 'Parking Oosterdok'. From this car park it is about a 10-minute walk to the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. From Parking Oosterdok it is a 10-minute walk. Follow the Annie M.G. Schmidtstraat to the end, as far as the Oosterdoksstraat. Here you turn right until you reach the water and then walk to the left, underneath all the rail, road and tram viaducts. There you can take the steel staircase up and you will come out on the Piet Heinkade. From here you will see the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ on your left.

No prior knowledge is required: you learn to improve your presentation technique, turn nerves into positive energy and engage your audience with a clear story.
- How does the Presenting with Conviction course deal with nerves and tension?
- During the course you learn where your tension comes from and how to turn it into positive energy. You are given concrete tools and techniques to tackle both physical and mental signs of tension. A healthy dose of tension keeps you sharp; too much tension blocks you. You discover your personal balance and practise techniques that you can apply directly before and during a presentation.

- This course covers, among other things, preparing a presentation, speaking engagingly, determining your aim and structure, and using verbal, non-verbal and paralinguistic communication. You also learn how to attract and hold your audience's attention and how to use aids effectively. On day two you give a mini-presentation of your own, which you prepare beforehand in around three hours.

- What does a training day on the Presenting with Conviction course look like?
- The Presenting with Conviction course consists of two classroom training days in which you alternate between experiencing, experimenting, reflecting and theory. You practise presentation techniques actively, receive feedback and work on your own learning objectives. On the second day you give a mini-presentation, for which you should set aside around three hours of preparation time in advance.
- What is the difference between the Presenting with Conviction course and an online presentation skills course?
- The main difference lies in the hands-on practice and immediate feedback. Presenting with Conviction is a classroom course in which you actually stand in front of a group and demonstrate your behaviour. On the second day you give a mini-presentation, for which you should allow around three hours of preparation. You receive feedback from the trainer and from fellow participants on your verbal, non-verbal and paralinguistic communication. That is not possible in an online course, where you mainly pick up theory and tips without anyone seeing your posture, voice or nerves. An online course is suitable if you want to expand your knowledge. Classroom training works better if you really want to change your behaviour, learn to turn your tension around and experience how you come across to an audience.
- How do I know whether this classroom course suits me, or would I be better off engaging an individual coach?
- The classroom course Presenting with Conviction is suitable if you want to practise in front of a real audience. On day two you give a mini-presentation that you prepare for about three hours, and you receive feedback from both the trainer and fellow participants. That group dynamic provides recognition and a variety of examples that you miss in a one-to-one programme. An individual coach is a better choice if you want to prepare for a very specific situation, for example a high-stakes keynote or pitch, or if you would rather not practise in front of people you don't know. Not sure? During the intake beforehand your learning objectives are mapped out, so that the programme is tailored to them.
- How much time will I spend on preparation and practice in addition to the two training days?
- In addition to the two classroom days, you will spend around three hours preparing a mini presentation. You will deliver this mini presentation on the second day of the course, and it is an important opportunity to apply the theory from day one straight away. There is no other compulsory homework or e-learning beforehand. There is, however, an individual intake before the course, in which your learning objectives are identified. So allow for around 16 hours of classroom training plus approximately 3 hours of your own preparation time. If you really want to see results in practice, it helps to deliberately seek out opportunities to present at work after the course. The course gives you the framework and the tools; repetition in practice makes the behaviour stick.
