That presentation for the management team, the project team or a symposium: you want to stand there with confidence and really reach your audience. In this course you work on your story, your posture and your impact. So that your presentation sticks.

Description

In this course you will work on presentations that stick. You will explore where tension comes from and how to turn it into positive energy, so that you can stand in front of a group with confidence.

You learn how to make authentic contact with your audience and use your own qualities to really come across. You also get tools for building your story clearly: from a sparkling opening to a closing that sticks.

You go into verbal, non-verbal and paralinguistic communication in depth and discover how to attract your audience's attention and hold on to it. The effective use of visual aids is also covered.

The course is practice-oriented: you alternate theory with practising, reflecting and experimenting. On the second day you give a mini-presentation, for which you will need around three hours of preparation time.

Topics

During this course the following topics, among others, are covered:

  • Preparing a presentation: what to take into account when preparing your presentation.
  • Speaking engagingly: how to engage your audience, deliver a sparkling opening and close in a way that sticks.
  • Nerves before and during a presentation: you will gain insight into the cause of tension and the extent to which it helps or hinders you.
  • Turning tension into positive energy: tools and techniques for turning both physical and mental signs of tension into positive energy.
  • Communication: how communication works and what you can take from that into your presentations.
  • Verbal, non-verbal and paralinguistic communication: what you literally say, what your body does and how your voice sounds. And what effect that has on your audience.
  • Purpose, structure and set-up: how to determine the aim of your presentation, arrive at the content and cast it in a logical form.
  • Getting and holding attention: with which you capture your audience's attention and how to keep hold of it.
  • Use of tools: which tools you choose, how they support your story and how you make sure everything runs smoothly.

Please bear in mind that you will spend about three hours preparing a mini-presentation, which you will deliver on the second day of the course.

Result

After this course you will present with confidence and enjoyment. You know how to determine the aim of your presentation and how to achieve that aim. You build up your story logically and give it a form that suits you and your audience. You capture your listeners' attention and know how to hold it. And you know how to engage your audience, whether you are presenting to the management team, a project team or a larger auditorium.

You will also recognise where your tension comes from and have techniques at your disposal to convert that tension into positive energy. You use your own qualities consciously, so that you come across as authentic and convincing.

Target audience

This course is particularly suitable for participants who have to speak in public for their work, want to improve their presentation techniques and want to stand in front of a group with confidence. Whether you are presenting to the management team, a project team, a symposium or via an online meeting: you learn how to bring your message across convincingly. Which aspects of presenting do you want to focus on?

Teaching method

During the course you alternate between concrete experience, experimenting with behaviour and techniques, reflecting and exploring theory. This means the programme suits different types of participants. There is plenty of action in the course, so that you actually experience the effect of new behaviour. That way you recognise what works and what does not.

We emphasise that you are responsible for your own development and take ownership of it. During the course we invite you to reflect continuously and make connections with your own practice. Our aim is to increase your insight and let you make the translation to your own situation yourself. That increases the chance of real behavioural change.

Prior knowledge

No specific prior knowledge is required for this course. Do you want to present with more self-confidence and conviction? Then you are welcome. An open attitude and a willingness to practise and look at yourself will help you most.

In-company

Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.

Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.

  • “In the Presenting with Conviction course you get down to practical work for two days in a row. Because you give a presentation early on, you are confronted with your own limiting thought that, in order to give a ‘good presentation’, you need more preparation than just one evening between those two days. But if you follow the steps, you get a long way, as it turns out! It is a course, after all, so the ideal place to do something not quite ‘right’ yet.”

  • “The course is very instructive. Many topics are covered and you are given the opportunity to practise with them. This is recorded on video and evaluated each time. Frequently asked questions

The course is suitable for anyone who regularly speaks in public for their work and wants to feel more confident in front of a group. Think of professionals presenting to a management team, a project team or at a symposium. No prior knowledge is required: you learn to improve your presentation technique, turn nerves into positive energy and engage your audience with a clear story.

During the course you learn where your tension comes from and how to turn it into positive energy. You are given concrete tools and techniques to tackle both physical and mental signs of tension. A healthy dose of tension keeps you sharp; too much tension blocks you. You discover your personal balance and practise techniques that you can apply directly before and during a presentation.

This course covers, among other things, preparing a presentation, speaking engagingly, determining your aim and structure, and using verbal, non-verbal and paralinguistic communication. You also learn how to attract and hold your audience's attention and how to use aids effectively. On day two you give a mini-presentation of your own, which you prepare beforehand in around three hours.

Yes, after completing the Presenting with Conviction course you will receive a certificate of attendance from Learnit. This certificate confirms that you have successfully completed the classroom course. You can add it to your LinkedIn profile or CV to demonstrate your presentation skills to your employer or clients.

The Presenting with Conviction course consists of two classroom training days in which you alternate between experiencing, experimenting, reflecting and theory. You practise presentation techniques actively, receive feedback and work on your own learning objectives. On the second day you give a mini-presentation, for which you should set aside around three hours of preparation time in advance.

The main difference lies in the hands-on practice and immediate feedback. Presenting with Conviction is a classroom course in which you actually stand in front of a group and demonstrate your behaviour. On the second day you give a mini-presentation, for which you should allow around three hours of preparation. You receive feedback from the trainer and from fellow participants on your verbal, non-verbal and paralinguistic communication. That is not possible in an online course, where you mainly pick up theory and tips without anyone seeing your posture, voice or nerves. An online course is suitable if you want to expand your knowledge. Classroom training works better if you really want to change your behaviour, learn to turn your tension around and experience how you come across to an audience.

The classroom course Presenting with Conviction is suitable if you want to practise in front of a real audience. On day two you give a mini-presentation that you prepare for about three hours, and you receive feedback from both the trainer and fellow participants. That group dynamic provides recognition and a variety of examples that you miss in a one-to-one programme. An individual coach is a better choice if you want to prepare for a very specific situation, for example a high-stakes keynote or pitch, or if you would rather not practise in front of people you don't know. Not sure? During the intake beforehand your learning objectives are mapped out, so that the programme is tailored to them.

In addition to the two classroom days, you will spend around three hours preparing a mini presentation. You will deliver this mini presentation on the second day of the course, and it is an important opportunity to apply the theory from day one straight away. There is no other compulsory homework or e-learning beforehand. There is, however, an individual intake before the course, in which your learning objectives are identified. So allow for around 16 hours of classroom training plus approximately 3 hours of your own preparation time. If you really want to see results in practice, it helps to deliberately seek out opportunities to present at work after the course. The course gives you the framework and the tools; repetition in practice makes the behaviour stick.

Presenting with Conviction combines three layers: personal development, communication and content structure. Many other courses focus mainly on technique (creating slides, structure, use of voice) or on tools such as PowerPoint. This course covers that technique too, but links it to who you are as a speaker. You examine where your tension comes from, how to turn it into positive energy, and how to use your own qualities to come across authentically. You also work on verbal, non-verbal and paralinguistic communication, and on the aim, structure and set-up of your story. On day two you give a mini-presentation, for which you invest around three hours of preparation. The cost is and the course is classroom-based, so that you receive immediate feedback from the trainer and fellow participants.

Presenting with Conviction is broader than a TED-style or storytelling workshop. A storytelling course focuses mainly on the structure of your story and on narrative techniques. A TED-style workshop usually focuses on delivering one short, powerful talk. This course covers three layers at once: personal tension and self-confidence, communication (verbal, non-verbal and paralinguistic) and the substantive structure with objective, structure and supporting tools. You work on a mini-presentation that you deliver on day two, with around three hours of preparation time. The cost is, classroom-based in a small group. Choose this course if you want not only a better structure or a good story, but also want to work concretely on nerves, presence and contact with your audience.

The Presenting with Conviction course lays a broad foundation that you can apply to a wide range of presentation formats, from a management team presentation to a symposium or a pitch. You work on preparation, structure, defining your objective, connecting with your audience and turning nerves into positive energy. These skills form the basis of every presentation, whatever the setting. For a keynote at a conference or an investor pitch, additional elements are relevant that fall outside the scope, such as in-depth storytelling techniques, stage direction for large auditoriums or building an investment case. The course lasts and, classroom-based. During the intake you can raise your specific context; the programme is determined partly on the basis of the participants' learning objectives, so a keynote or pitch can become a concrete practice moment during your mini-presentation on day two.
