Plan your route

A 19-minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal. A 4-minute walk from the 'Muziekgebouw Bimhuis' tram stop. A 3-minute walk from the 'Piet Heinkade' bus stop.

Very close by (but pricey) - Piet Hein car park

Directly beneath the Muziekgebouw you can park in the Piet Hein car park.

Cheaper alternative - Parking Oosterdok (Oosterdokstraat 150)

The entrance is beneath the Amsterdam Conservatorium. This is at the rear of the Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam. On Oosterdokseiland, follow the signs for 'Parking Oosterdok'. From this car park it is about a 10-minute walk to the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. From Parking Oosterdok it is a 10-minute walk. Follow the Annie M.G. Schmidtstraat to the end, as far as the Oosterdoksstraat. Here you turn right until you reach the water and then walk to the left, underneath all the rail, road and tram viaducts. There you can take the steel staircase up and you will come out on the Piet Heinkade. From here you will see the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ on your left.

Please note: parking costs are at your own expense.

What participants thought

  • “For me, this course was on the one hand a good repetition of the SQL Basics course I also attended, and on the other hand it covered additional topics I did not yet know. Thanks to the content of the course I now have, as the trainer nicely put it, a number of new tools in my toolbox that I can use if I need them in my work.”

Frequently asked questions

How long does the SQL Advanced course take and where can I find the current price?
The SQL Advanced course lasts two consecutive days. The course is taught in a classroom setting by an experienced database trainer. You receive a book with exercises and practical cases that you can also use as a reference work. During the course you work with Microsoft SQL Server; the software and course materials are in English. The current price can be found on the course page at learnit.nl.
What prior knowledge do you need for the SQL Advanced course?
For the SQL Advanced course you need a basic knowledge of SQL. You already work with SELECT, WHERE and simple queries, or you have taken the SQL Basics course. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server is useful, but not essential. The course is intended for data analysts, functional administrators, BI consultants, database managers and developers who want to deepen their SQL knowledge with T-SQL.
Which SQL topics and T-SQL techniques does the SQL Advanced course cover?
The SQL Advanced course covers advanced (T-)SQL techniques in Microsoft SQL Server. On day 1 you refresh the basics: SELECT, WHERE, ORDER BY, GROUP BY and functions such as ROUND and DATEPART. On day 2 you get to work with joins, subqueries, table expressions, UNION, window functions (OVER, PARTITION, LAG, LEAD), pivoting, data modification, transactions and programmable objects such as procedures and triggers.
Who is the SQL Advanced course suitable for?
The SQL Advanced course is intended for SQL users who have mastered the basics and want to work with Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL. Think of functional administrators, database managers, data analysts, BI consultants, information managers, system administrators, database developers and programmers. In two days you will deepen your knowledge with advanced techniques such as joins, subqueries, window functions and programmable objects.
Which course material and which software are used during the SQL Intermediate course?
During the SQL Advanced course you work with Microsoft SQL Server. Before the course you receive an English-language course book with exercises and practice cases, which you can then also use as a reference guide. Both the software and the course material are in English; the course itself is simply delivered in Dutch by an experienced database trainer.
What is the delivery format of the SQL Advanced course and in what group size do you follow it?
You follow the SQL Advanced course in a classroom setting over two days, led by an experienced database trainer. You work in a small group, which leaves room for personal attention and questions from your own practice. The training course combines theory with demos, examples and plenty of practice assignments in Microsoft SQL Server. That way you quickly get to grips with the advanced (T-)SQL functions.
When should you choose the classroom-based SQL Advanced course instead of self-study through online tutorials?
Self-study works fine for individual SQL commands, but it grinds to a halt as soon as you have to combine T-SQL techniques such as window functions, subqueries and MERGE in real working situations. Classroom learning works better if you: - want quick results: in two days you cover both a refresher of the basics and advanced T-SQL - have questions about your own data or queries: the trainer looks over your shoulder - want to practise in Microsoft SQL Server without first setting up your own environment - want to understand the difference between procedural and object-oriented programming, not just apply it You receive an English-language exercise book that also serves as a reference work. For anyone who already uses SQL professionally and wants to develop in a targeted way, this is usually more efficient than piecing together months of individual YouTube videos.
How does the SQL Advanced course compare with a broader data analysis programme such as Power BI or Python?
SQL Advanced focuses specifically on querying and manipulating relational databases with (T-)SQL in Microsoft SQL Server. You learn to write advanced queries, apply joins, build subqueries, modify data and carry out logical tests. A Power BI course focuses on visualising and reporting data, often based on existing datasets. A Python course for data analysis teaches you scripting, statistics and machine learning. In practice, SQL is often the first step: you extract the right data from the source before visualising it in Power BI or analysing it further in Python. Choose SQL Advanced if you work with databases and want to transform the data yourself. For visualisation or advanced analysis you will also need a separate tool. The course lasts two days.
