  • Word fully mastered
  • Mailings and tables without the hassle
  • Six months' access to all lessons
  • Working with Copilot in Word
  • Practise at your own pace, wherever you are

Master Word, from basic to advanced, at your own pace and from any location. This e-learning combines two modules with videos and assignments, and optionally covers working with Copilot in Word.

Description

In this e-learning you get to know Word at your own pace and build up your skills step by step. You start with the basics: opening documents, entering text, formatting and setting up the page layout. After that you move on to tables, images, graphic objects and setting up mailings. Optionally, the course also covers working with Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word.

The bundle consists of two modules with more than a hundred lesson videos in total and just as many assignments. After each topic you check your knowledge, so you only move on once the material has sunk in. You follow the course entirely online, at the time and place that suits you.

Topics

  • Opening, editing and saving documents
  • Selecting, cutting, copying and pasting text
  • Formatting: themes, colours, fonts and paragraphs
  • Page setup, margins and printing
  • Tab stops, lists and indentation
  • Spelling and grammar checking and synonyms
  • Inserting AutoText, the system date and time
  • Creating and editing tables
  • Inserting images, drawing objects and captions
  • Adding charts and diagrams
  • Creating envelopes and labels
  • Setting up mailings with an address list and merge fields
  • Conditional text and variable fields in mailings
  • Optional: working with Copilot in Word

Result

After this e-learning you work smoothly in Word. You create and edit documents, handle the formatting and set up the page layout. You add tables, images, drawing objects and charts in the right place in your text. You set up mailings with variable fields and conditional text, and you print envelopes and labels. Optionally, you also know how to use Copilot in Word to write and edit more quickly.

Target audience

This e-learning is intended for anyone who wants to master (or re-master) the basic operations in Word and then progress to the more advanced functions. Whether you are starting from scratch or want to refresh and expand your knowledge: you work at your own pace on a solid Word foundation and additional skills such as tables, images and mailings. Optionally, you also get to know Word in combination with Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Teaching method

You follow this course entirely online through e-learning. Each module offers dozens of short instructional videos, followed by exercises in which you immediately apply what you have seen. Only once you have sufficiently mastered a topic do you move on to the next. This way you build up your knowledge step by step, at your own pace and in a place that suits you.

You have access to the platform for six months from the start. You can stop along the way: your progress is saved automatically, so you can pick up later exactly where you left off. Optionally, during the course you can also spend time on Word in combination with Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Prior knowledge

You do not need any prior knowledge. Can you handle a computer and do you know how to open and save a file? Then you can get started straight away. A laptop with an internet connection is all you need to follow the e-learning.

Comments

You work through this e-learning at your own pace and have 6 months' access to the platform. Optionally, you can also look at Word in combination with Microsoft 365 Copilot.

  • "That you can do so much with Word. It really broadens your work. The only thing is that a written record of the procedures would be ideal. You often quickly forget the positions you need to use in order to do something."

Gea Hoekstra, Veiligheidsregio Fryslân - Word Basics

  • “The Word Basics course is a course for anyone who works with Word in any way or is about to start. The course gives you the confident feeling that you know Word after 2 days. Not everything, of course – that comes in a follow-up course. But for anyone who needs to be able to write a letter, this comes highly recommended!”

Clemens van Tilborg, Cofely Talent BV- Word 2003 Basics

  • "I took the "Word 2010 Advanced" course. On top of the basic knowledge I already had of Word, this is a valuable addition to my daily work at the secretariat. I was trained years ago on the Office 2003 package, and Office 2010 does differ quite a lot from the 2003 version, which means it often takes more time to find out where they have hidden that one button or function this time. I will certainly be putting a lot of it into practice and I learned many new things (including things I thought I already knew well!)."

Jane van Biezen, Kuiper Compagnons - Word Advanced

  • “The Word Tips and Tricks course makes you aware of everything that is possible for adding tidiness and creativity to your documents in practice. Knowing what the options are is a first step. Remembering everything is harder. But you can look that up, and we should still be getting an overview of the topics covered. So that step by step you can learn, use and retain whatever applies to you. The trainer was excellent!”

Anneke Yntema, Veiligheidsregio Fryslân - Word Basics

  • “The open learning format is very pleasant because you can work at your own pace, which means you are not, or hardly, distracted.”

  • “For years I hated the word processing programme ‘Microsoft Word’. I felt unwell at the very thought of having to write a letter in ‘Word’ with photos, tables and so on. I would sooner write a letter in Excel, because I could handle that better. That fear has now gone; it was simply a lack of knowledge. I had never really taken the time to get to grips with the programme. I started out using the wrong order of work when setting up a document, and that resulted in frustration with all the consequences that entails.”

    H. Klaassen, GGD Kennemerland- Word 2003 Advanced

  • “The fact that you work with your own material and that the trainer can help you well with it really appealed to me, as did working practically with the subject matter.”

  • "I am/was used to following a course or programme as part of a group. With this method, you get started on your own after a brief round of introductions. The coursebook is clearly and logically structured. You also get to take the CD-ROM home with you so you can practise more if needed. You decide your own pace and which parts you give extra attention and want to practise further. Even though I always learn a lot from others when topics are covered and discussed in a classroom setting, I found this method very useful."

Frequently asked questions

In the Word Basics + Advanced e-learning course you learn to enter and format text, lay out pages and save documents. After that you get to work with tables, images, charts and mailings. The course consists of 2 modules with a total of 103 lesson videos and 103 assignments. Optionally, you can also cover Word in combination with Microsoft 365 Copilot.

You have access to the online learning platform for 6 months from the moment you start. Each module takes around 7 hours to complete, so allow around 14 hours for the whole bundle. Within those 6 months you can review and repeat the course as often as you like, at your own pace and from any location with internet.

No, you do not need any prior knowledge for the Word Basics + Advanced e-learning course. The course starts from the very beginning: opening documents, entering and formatting text. After that you build up step by step to tables, images and mailings. Basic experience with Windows and a mouse is sufficient. Anyone who wants to learn Word (again) can start straight away.

The total duration is approximately 14 hours: around 7 hours per module. Module 1 consists of 61 lesson videos with 61 assignments and 6 files, module 2 of 42 lesson videos with 42 assignments and 1 file. You work at your own pace and can stop in between. Your progress is saved automatically, so you can continue later where you left off.

Yes, on completing the Word Basics + Advanced e-learning you receive a certificate of participation from LearnIt. You receive this certificate as soon as you have successfully completed all lesson videos and assignments of both modules. The certificate shows that you have mastered the basic and advanced functions of Word, a nice addition to your CV or LinkedIn profile.

Yes, the e-learning optionally covers Word in combination with Microsoft 365 Copilot. You learn how to use the AI assistant in Word to generate, summarise or rewrite texts. This section is an addition to the standard Word functionality. Don't have a Copilot licence? Then you can simply work through all the other topics in full.

The e-learning is a good choice if you want to learn flexibly, at your own pace and at times that suit you. You work independently through 103 lesson videos and 103 exercises, spread across two modules of roughly 7 hours each. You have 6 months' access, so you can break off and continue later. A classroom course is a better fit if you want direct interaction with a trainer, want to ask questions about your own documents, or want to be finished in one or two days. The e-learning takes more time overall, but gives you the scope to revisit topics for as long as your licence is valid. For large groups of staff, for example during a migration to a new version of Office, the e-learning is often more cost-effective and more scalable than classroom training.

The Word Basics + Advanced e-learning is a structured programme with 103 lesson videos, 103 assignments and 7 files with additional information, divided over two modules. For each subject you complete an assignment, and you only move on once you have sufficient command of the previous part. That is the main difference with individual tutorials on YouTube: there you decide the order yourself, you often miss the bigger picture and there is no test moment that confirms your knowledge. The material builds up from basic operations (formatting, paragraphs, printing) to advanced functions (tables, images, mailings and merge fields). You have 6 months' access and can pause and continue at any time. Optionally, you can also look at Word with Microsoft 365 Copilot. Choose this e-learning if you want a complete learning path instead of separate answers to separate questions.

The Word Basics + Advanced e-learning course is suitable for employees who use Word daily or regularly for documents, reports, letters and mailings, but have never learned the software in a structured way. Think of administrative staff, secretaries, project staff and freelancers who want to format their documents faster and more professionally. You will learn basic operations (text formatting, paragraphs, page setup) and advanced functions (tables, images, mailings, merge fields). Choose the Expert variant if you are already comfortable with mailings and tables and want to progress to long documents with styles, tables of contents, sections, templates and collaboration using tracked changes. Not sure? The Basics + Advanced bundle is the right starting point for 95% of office roles. The Copilot sections are optionally available for those who want to work with AI support in Word.

Straight away, because the e-learning is built around practical exercises that you can repeat in your own Word documents as you go. Module 1 (61 instructional videos, 61 exercises) focuses on entering text, formatting, paragraphs, page setup and spelling and grammar checking. You use those skills from lesson 1 onwards in letters, reports and notes. Module 2 (42 instructional videos, 42 exercises) covers tables, images, charts, envelopes, labels and mailings with variable fields, which you apply in customer correspondence and merged documents. For each module you should allow around 7 hours of study time, spread over short blocks. Because you can only continue after completing an exercise successfully, you practise every topic until you have it down. In practice, participants notice a difference in their day-to-day tasks within a week.

The Word Basics + Advanced e-learning runs entirely in the cloud. You log in via a website and work through the 61 lesson videos of module 1 and the 42 lesson videos of module 2 there. Nothing needs to be installed on your computer, not even a Microsoft Office package. That means the course works on Windows, macOS, Linux and in principle on any device with a modern browser and an internet connection. So you do not need your own Word licence to take the course. If you want to apply what you have learned directly in your own Word, that is of course handy, but it is not a requirement for the assignments and knowledge tests within the e-learning. Practical note: a laptop or desktop works more comfortably than a tablet, because you are dealing with word processing and formatting.

The Copilot component is an optional addition to the Word Basics + Advanced e-learning. You learn how to use Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word to generate drafts, rewrite existing text, create summaries and have documents improved in terms of tone and structure. It is an introduction at user level, not a prompt engineering course. Afterwards you know how to call up Copilot in Word, which types of instructions work well and where the limits lie (Copilot does not replace final editing). Condition: you need a Microsoft 365 licence with Copilot in order to practise yourself. Without that licence you can view the explanations and examples, but you cannot follow along in your own Word. For everyday business use this provides a sufficient foundation.
