You work a lot in Power BI Desktop, but sharing and managing reports via the Power BI Service is still unfamiliar territory. In this course you bring the two together and tackle the cloud side in a structured way.

Description

The Power BI Service is where reports come together. This is where you publish your work, arrange who may see what and keep versions under control. In this course you learn how to use the Service as a central working environment alongside Desktop.

You will practise publishing from OneDrive and SharePoint, building dashboards that people actually use, and managing datasets with scheduled refresh. You set up workspaces with roles and contacts, so that collaboration runs smoothly.

The content adapts to your working practice. You work with recognisable examples or your own files and there is plenty of room for questions. That way you can move forward in the cloud with confidence.

Topics

  • The role of the Power BI Service alongside Desktop in your workflow
  • Publishing from OneDrive, SharePoint and Desktop
  • Reports in the Service: bookmarks, spotlight, comments and favourites
  • Sharing and exporting: PDF, Excel, PowerPoint, QR code and embedding
  • Building dashboards from reports or individual visuals
  • Managing tiles, mobile layout and sharing via a video meeting
  • Publishing datasets, lineage view and scheduled refresh
  • Using a gateway for on-premises sources
  • Creating and editing reports in the Service, including DAX online
  • Setting up workspaces: roles, contacts and permissions
  • Paginated reports in the Service

Result

After this course you will publish reports independently in the Power BI Service and share them with the right people. You set permissions and roles correctly, keep workspaces well organised and build dashboards that suit your audience. You manage datasets with scheduled refresh, so that information always stays up to date. By working centrally, you avoid separate file versions floating around.

Target audience

This course is intended for anyone who works with Power BI Desktop and wants to publish, share and manage reports online. Think of analysts, controllers, policy advisers, business intelligence specialists and data managers who want to make the move to the cloud. Basic knowledge of Power BI Desktop is required. Not sure about your starting level? Get in touch for advice.

Teaching method

You learn in a practical way: short explanations followed by hands-on practice in the online environment. You apply the material to recognisable situations and work with your own data or practice files. Groups remain small, so there is room for personal guidance and questions from your own working practice.

Prior knowledge

You have experience with Power BI Desktop and know how to build a report. No experience with the Service is required.

Comments

This course offers a practical introduction to managing reports and datasets effectively in the Power BI Service. Afterwards you will be able to publish, share and manage your reports securely, with a focus on collaboration and up-to-date data. The course is suitable for anyone with basic knowledge of Power BI Desktop who wants to extend their skills to the online environment. There is plenty of room for practical application and personal guidance. The course can also be delivered in-company and in English.

In-company

Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.

Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.
