Description

In this e-learning you get to know Word and build up your knowledge from basic to expert level. You work through three modules with a total of 152 video lessons and just as many practical exercises, so you apply every topic straight away.

You start with the basics: opening documents, entering and formatting text, page layout, spelling and grammar checking, and printing. You then learn to create tables, insert images and graphic objects and set up complete mailings with variable fields. In the expert part you work with styles, templates, long documents, tables of contents, collaboration, macros and forms.

The course optionally also covers working with Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word, so you discover how this AI assistant helps you write and format documents.

You follow the e-learning course wherever and whenever you like. Once you have started, you have nine months' access to the platform and you can stop along the way and continue later. Your progress is saved automatically.

  • "I am/was used to following a course or programme as part of a group. With this method, you get started on your own after a brief round of introductions. The coursebook is clearly and logically structured. You also get to take the CD-ROM home with you so you can practise more if needed. You decide your own pace and which parts you give extra attention and want to practise further. Even though I always learn a lot from others when topics are covered and discussed in a classroom setting, I found this method very useful."

  • "I took the "Word 2010 Advanced" course. On top of the basic knowledge I already had of Word, this is a valuable addition to my daily work at the secretariat. I was trained years ago on the Office 2003 package, and Office 2010 does differ quite a lot from the 2003 version, which means it often takes more time to find out where they have hidden that one button or function this time. I will certainly be putting a lot of it into practice and I learned many new things (including things I thought I already knew well!)."

  • “The Word Basics course is a course for anyone who works with Word in any way or is about to start. The course gives you the confident feeling that you know Word after 2 days. Not everything, of course – that comes in a follow-up course. But for anyone who needs to be able to write a letter, this comes highly recommended!”

  • “For years I hated the word processing programme ‘Microsoft Word’. I felt unwell at the very thought of having to write a letter in ‘Word’ with photos, tables and so on. I would sooner write a letter in Excel, because I could handle that better. That fear has now gone; it was simply a lack of knowledge. I had never really taken the time to get to grips with the programme. I started out using the wrong order of work when setting up a document, and that resulted in frustration with all the consequences that entails.”

    R. Frielink, Dunea - Word Basics

  • “The pace of the lessons is fine, because you can adapt it to your own speed.”

    H. Klaassen, GGD Kennemerland- Word 2003 Advanced

  • “Learning at your own pace with good support!”

    J. Hamer, Scania Production Zwolle B.V. - Word Intermediate
    Rating 9.9
  • “The Word Tips and Tricks course makes you aware of everything that is possible for adding tidiness and creativity to your documents in practice. Knowing what the options are is a first step. Remembering everything is harder. But you can look that up, and we should still be getting an overview of the topics covered. So that step by step you can learn, use and retain whatever applies to you. The trainer was excellent!”

Anneke Yntema, Veiligheidsregio Fryslân - Word Basics

Frequently asked questions

You have 9 months' access to the online learning platform from the start date. Each module takes around 7 hours to complete, so allow about 21 hours in total for the three modules. You set your own pace, can pause along the way and work through the course as often as you like within that period.

The e-learning consists of three modules: Basics, Advanced and Expert. Together they contain 152 instructional videos and 152 assignments, covering all Word functions from text entry and formatting to tables, mailings, templates and long documents. Each module takes around 7 hours to complete. Optionally, you also cover working with Copilot in Word.

No, you do not need any prior knowledge. The e-learning starts with the basics and builds up step by step to expert level. You first learn to enter and format text, then tables, images and mailings, and finally styles, templates, long documents and forms. Basic experience with a computer and Windows is useful for getting off to a quick start.

Yes, you can follow the Word Basics + Advanced + Expert e-learning on any device with an internet connection. The course runs in the cloud, so you don't have to install anything. You log in via a website and start straight away. Whether you are working at home on your laptop, at a desktop in the office or want to carry on while travelling: your progress is saved automatically.

Yes, once you have completed the Word Basics + Advanced + Expert e-learning course you will receive a certificate of participation from LearnIt. This certificate confirms that you have worked through all three modules, from basic functionality to expert topics such as templates, mailings and long documents. A useful addition to your CV or LinkedIn profile, showing that you have mastered Word at an advanced level.

The total duration is approximately 21 hours: allow around 7 hours of study time per module. The bundle consists of three modules with a total of 152 instructional videos and 152 assignments. You decide your own pace and can stop along the way. Your progress is saved, so you can easily pick up where you left off within your 9 months' access.

This e-learning suits you if you want to learn flexibly, at your own pace and in your own place. You have 9 months' access to the platform and can stop and continue at any time. Together, the three modules contain 152 video lessons and 152 exercises, with a study time of roughly 7 hours per module. A classroom course is a better choice if you want to put specific questions to a trainer or if you learn through interaction with other participants. The e-learning is stronger if you have irregular working hours, want to set your own learning pace or want to repeat specific sections several times. For large groups of employees, for example during a migration, the e-learning is often more cost-effective thanks to volume discounts. Working with Copilot in Word is also covered as an option.

Yes, in that case this bundle is particularly suitable. Module 1 of the course starts with basic operations such as formatting, paragraphs and page layout, but you can work through these topics quickly if you already know them. For experienced users, the real gain lies in modules 2 and 3: mailings with conditional text, building styles and templates, long documents with sections and a table of contents, tracking changes, forms and macros. These are precisely the functions many users skip because they have never formally learned them. Optionally, you also work with Copilot in Word. You have 9 months' access, so you can look selectively at where your knowledge gaps are. Allow around 7 hours per module.

The Expert module (module 3) focuses on managing long, professional documents and on collaboration. You will learn to create and edit styles, themes and templates, work with sections, build a table of contents, and add bookmarks, hyperlinks, footnotes, an index and citations. The module also covers collaborating on a document, tracking changes, sharing and protecting documents, macros, creating forms and personalising the working environment. The module consists of 49 lesson videos, 49 assignments and 4 files with additional information. Basics (module 1) covers text entry, formatting and page setup. Advanced (module 2) deals with tables, images, charts and mailings. Choose the complete bundle if you structure reports, theses or policy documents running to dozens of pages. Optionally, the course also covers Word with Copilot.

Yes, this e-learning course optionally covers working with Copilot in Word. Copilot is the AI assistant within Microsoft 365 that helps you draft, rewrite and summarise documents. You will learn how to use Copilot to produce a first draft more quickly, shorten long texts and act on formatting suggestions. The Copilot section is an addition to the three main modules (Basics, Advanced and Expert), not a replacement for them. The core Word skills, such as styles, sections, mailings and templates, remain the main focus. Do you not have a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence yourself? You can still follow the Word modules in full. The Copilot material is therefore an extra that you activate when it is relevant in your own working environment.

That depends on how you approach the course. The bundle contains 152 video lessons spread over three modules (Basics, Advanced, Expert), but you don't have to work through them all in sequence. You have 9 months' access, so you can pick precisely the topics you need: for example only mail merges (Module 2) or only long documents with tables of contents and styles (Module 3). The study time per module is roughly 7 hours, around 21 hours in total. Compared with a classroom day of a few hours, you get far more depth here, and you can return to a topic later if you come across it again in practice. Do you really want to learn something narrow? Then a single module makes more sense than the complete bundle.

This e-learning optionally covers how to use Microsoft 365 Copilot within Word. Copilot is Microsoft's AI assistant, which in Word can draft, summarise and rewrite texts and convert them to a different tone. In the basics you first learn to build, format and structure documents yourself using styles, sections and templates. After that you see how Copilot can speed up those tasks, for example when drafting a first version, summarising a long document or rewriting a paragraph. Important: Copilot only works if your organisation has a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence. The Copilot part is an addition, not a replacement. The Word knowledge you gain remains the basis on which you can use Copilot effectively and critically.
