What participants thought
“For years I hated the word processing programme ‘Microsoft Word’. I felt unwell at the very thought of having to write a letter in ‘Word’ with photos, tables and so on. I would sooner write a letter in Excel, because I could handle that better. That fear has now gone; it was simply a lack of knowledge. I had never really taken the time to get to grips with the programme. I started out using the wrong order of work when setting up a document, and that resulted in frustration with all the consequences that entails.”
R. Frielink, Dunea - Word Basics
“Learning at your own pace with good support!”
J. Hamer, Scania Production Zwolle B.V. - Word Intermediate
"A clear course with clear explanations in the book. An excellent reference work. A trainer who initially puts you on the wrong track, but who does prompt you to try things out for yourself straight away. If you get stuck, it is resolved expertly with a clear explanation."
Marian van Duin, Randstad HR Solutions - Word Basics
“Recommended: the course was very clear, easy to follow and effective. Personal guidance and attention for specific questions. Maastricht is a lovely location with a very well catered lunch.”

Frequently asked questions
- What will you learn in the Word Basics course?
- In the Word Basics course you learn all the basic skills of Microsoft Word. You practise entering, formatting and saving text, navigating through documents, working with keyboard shortcuts, adding images and tables, applying styles and creating a table of contents. The spelling checker and creating a mail merge are also covered. Optionally, you can give attention to Word with Copilot.
- How long does the Word Basics course last and what is the delivery format?
- The Word Basics course takes one day and is offered in the open learning format. This means that you work through the course material independently in a small group, while an experienced trainer is continuously on hand to answer your questions. You set your own pace and can focus on the topics that matter to you.
- Is prior knowledge required for the Word Basics course?
- No, the Word Basics course requires no prior knowledge of Word. You only need to be familiar with the basics of Windows, such as opening and saving files. The course starts at your own entry level: the trainer discusses beforehand what you can already do and what you want to work towards. That way the pace matches your situation.
- Does the Word Basics course also cover Copilot for Word?
- Yes, the Word Basics course optionally covers Microsoft 365 Copilot in Word. You learn how to use the AI assistant to draft, summarise or rewrite texts. Indicate when you register that you are interested in this, and the trainer will adapt the exercises accordingly. A Copilot licence via your employer is recommended.
- Do I receive course materials and a certificate with the Word Basics course?
- Yes, with the Word Basics course you receive course materials that match your version of Word, and afterwards you receive a certificate of participation. The materials are yours to keep, so you can go over everything again later at your leisure. During booking you tell us your version, so that you work with exercises that match the software on your own computer exactly.
- Which version of Word is the Word Basics course suitable for?
- The Word Basics course is suitable for all modern versions of Word, including Microsoft 365, Word 2021 and Word 2019. When you book, you indicate which version you use. Our planners then make sure you receive the course materials that match your version exactly, so you can practise straight away in the environment you have at your workplace.
- When should you choose a classroom Word Basics course instead of self-study via YouTube or an online tutorial?
- Self-study via videos works perfectly well if you want to look up individual actions, such as setting up a table. A classroom Word Basics course delivers something different: structure, context and a trainer who answers your questions on the spot. In one day you learn how Word is set up in full, from the interface and backstage view to styles, tables of contents and mail merges. At the start, the trainer establishes your starting level together with you and adapts the exercises accordingly. That saves fragmented searching afterwards. Choose the classroom course if you use Word every day and want to work faster and more consistently with keyboard shortcuts, formatting and styles. Choose self-study if you occasionally want to carry out one specific task and have no need for an overview or guidance.
- How does the open learning format differ from a classroom Word course with a fixed group and lesson plan?
- In the open learning format of Word Basics you spend a full day working independently on assignments, at your own pace and in your own version of Word. An experienced trainer circulates and helps you as soon as you get stuck or have a question. You decide which topics to go through in more depth and which to complete more quickly. In a classroom course the group follows a fixed lesson plan and the trainer sets the pace. That works well if you want structure, but less so if your prior knowledge is unevenly spread across the topics. The open learning format suits you if you want to work on specific Word skills, such as styles, tables of contents or mailings, without being tied to the pace of others. You finish the day with practical skills that you can apply directly in your work.
