Each section comes with assignments that let you apply what you have learned straight away.

Optionally, the course also covers Excel in combination with Microsoft 365 Copilot, so that you see how to use this AI assistant when analysing data.

You follow the course from any device with an internet connection, whenever it suits you. No travelling time, and immediate results in your own work.

You also know how to refresh data and use the search function. Optionally, you will have been introduced to Copilot in Excel, so that you can use AI to gain insights from your data more quickly.

Target audience

This e-learning is intended for anyone who works in Excel with large volumes of data and wants to extract a clear overview and useful information from it quickly. Think of office staff, finance professionals, analysts, managers and self-employed professionals. You need basic knowledge of Excel, such as entering data and working with cells and columns. Knowledge of formulas is not required.

Teaching method

You follow this course entirely online, at your own pace and from any device with an internet connection. The e-learning consists of short videos, clear explanations and practical assignments with which you get started in Excel straight away.

You decide when and where you learn, with no travelling time. You can repeat sections as often as you like, so the material really sticks. Optionally, you also discover how Copilot helps you work with pivot tables in Excel.

Prior knowledge

You need basic knowledge of Excel. You know how to open a workbook, enter data into cells and carry out simple operations. Experience with formulas is not required, as pivot tables work precisely without you having to know any formulas.

Frequently asked questions

With the Excel Pivot Tables e-learning you learn to create pivot tables and pivot charts independently, at your own pace. You get videos, explanations and practical assignments on topics such as value field settings, calculated columns and refreshing data. The course can be followed online from any device with an internet connection, without travelling time and whenever it suits you.

A pivot table automatically summarises large amounts of data and groups them by category, whereas an ordinary table only shows rows and columns without any analysis. With a pivot table you drag fields into rows, columns or values and immediately see totals, averages or percentages. An ordinary table requires manual formulas for those same insights.

You need basic knowledge of Excel to follow this e-learning. Think of entering data, working with cells and creating a simple table. Knowledge of formulas is not required, as pivot tables work without complicated calculation formulas. Can you open and edit a list of data? Then you can get started straight away.

Yes, after successfully completing the Excel PivotTables e-learning you receive a certificate of participation from LearnIt. You can easily show this certificate to your employer or add it to your LinkedIn profile. You complete the course by working through all the video lessons, explanations and assignments. You work at your own pace and decide for yourself when you are finished.

You can start the Excel Pivot Tables e-learning immediately after registering. You follow the course entirely at your own pace, so you decide how much time you spend per session. Most participants complete the course in 3 to 5 hours, spread across several sittings. You have ample access to all the videos, explanations and exercises, so you can practise at a time that suits you.

Yes, pivot charts are a standard part of this e-learning. You learn how to turn a pivot table into a visual pivot chart, so you can see trends and proportions at a glance. You also practise with calculated columns, value field settings and the search function. That way you extract exactly the right information from your data.

An e-learning course suits you well if you want to work at your own pace, independently of a fixed timetable. You can rewatch videos as often as you need and practise at times that suit you. For most people that works fine for a clearly defined subject such as pivot tables, where you mainly recognise patterns through repetition. A classroom course is a better choice if you want to ask specific questions about your own data files, or if you notice that your perseverance is lower without fixed course days. Torn between the two? The Excel Pivot Tables e-learning course was developed by trainer Roy Nieuwenhuijzen and contains videos, explanations and assignments with immediate feedback. Optionally, Excel with Microsoft 365 Copilot is also covered, so that you can combine pivot tables with AI support.

Yes, the course optionally covers working with Microsoft 365 Copilot in Excel. Copilot is the AI assistant that helps within Excel to analyse data, suggest pivot tables and summarise patterns in your data. In the course you first learn to build pivot tables yourself, adjust value field settings and add calculated columns. After that, you see how Copilot can speed up this process, for example by generating a pivot table suggestion directly from a prompt. Important to know: Copilot only works if your organisation has a Microsoft 365 Copilot licence. If you do not have that licence, the rest of the e-learning remains fully usable. The Copilot sections are an addition to, not a replacement for, the basic skills.

The Excel Pivot Tables e-learning course is built up as a structured learning path with videos, written explanations and practice assignments for each subject. You work step by step through thirteen modules, from preparing data to calculated columns and the lookup function in Excel. Each piece of theory comes with an assignment and explanation, so that you apply the material straight away and receive feedback on your approach. That is the difference with individual YouTube videos: those show you a trick, but do not build a coherent skill. The course was developed by trainer Roy Nieuwenhuijzen and ties in with the practice of working with large datasets. You receive access to the course material and a certificate of participation on completion. Optionally, the use of Microsoft 365 Copilot in Excel is also covered, for those who want to combine pivot tables with AI support.

This e-learning course is intended for Excel users who work with datasets on a regular basis and want to draw insights from them without building complicated formulas. Think of finance staff, business analysts, HR staff, marketers and managers who produce reports based on export files from another system. You do not need experience with functions such as VLOOKUP or IF, but a basic knowledge of Excel (entering data, sorting columns, saving a file) is assumed. Do you never work with larger lists and stick to small, manageable tables? Then a pivot table course is less useful. Do you work with hundreds or thousands of rows and want to extract totals, averages or comparisons from them quickly? Then this e-learning course fits your working situation well.

This e-learning focuses specifically on pivot tables and pivot charts. You learn to prepare data, build pivot tables, adjust value field settings, add calculated columns and use the search function. A broader Excel course for advanced users also covers topics such as advanced formulas (VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH), conditional formatting, data validation, macros and scenario analysis. Choose this e-learning if pivot tables are your main goal and you want to work at your own pace. Choose an advanced course if you want to master a broader range of analysis techniques. The two are not mutually exclusive: many participants first take the Pivot Tables e-learning and then move on to a classroom follow-up course. Excel with Microsoft 365 Copilot is also covered as an option.

Copilot is the AI assistant in Microsoft 365 that helps with analyses in Excel. You describe in plain language what you want to know ('show the turnover per region per quarter') and Copilot proposes a pivot table or summary. In this Excel Pivot Tables e-learning course we optionally pay attention to Copilot in Excel. You first learn to build pivot tables yourself, set value fields and create calculated columns. After that you see how Copilot can speed up the same actions and which prompts work well. That distinction matters: without an understanding of the pivot table structure you cannot check Copilot's output. You do need a Microsoft 365 licence with Copilot in order to practise. The basic modules work without Copilot.
