Would you like more overview in your head and on paper? With mindmapping you process information more quickly, remember more and arrive at creative ideas faster. In one day you get the theory, the methods and the practical tools to get started straight away.

Description

In the Mindmapping course you discover how to make ideas visual and process information more quickly and effectively. You start with the theory behind mindmapping: how do you begin a mindmap, how do you add structure and what is the relationship between the way the brain works and the most effective mindmapping methods?

You will then spend one day working on practical assignments that take your mindmapping skills to a higher level. You compare your work with that of fellow participants and in this way gain valuable insights that you can apply directly in your own work or study situation. The course is delivered by a professional in the field of learning processes and memory and is characterised by a strong alternation between theory and practice.

Topics

  • Introduction to mind mapping: applications and benefits
  • How the brain works and the influence of visual thinking
  • Basic principles of effective mindmapping
  • Well-known mindmapping methods: advantages and disadvantages
  • Mindmapping in practice and common pitfalls
  • Practical assignments to practise with

Result

After the Mindmapping course you will apply this technique effectively in a wide range of situations. You will understand and remember complex information better, structure your thoughts more quickly and turn ideas into concrete actions. Thanks to your insight into how the brain works and into various mindmapping methods, you will work more creatively and productively, both in the workplace and beyond.

Target audience

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to bring more overview and structure to their thinking and working processes. Whether you want to structure information, plan projects, brainstorm more effectively, deal with complex information at work, make plans for your business or set personal goals: this course will help you further. No specific prior knowledge is required.

Teaching method

During this course you alternate continuously between theory and practice. You start with the background to mind mapping: how your brain processes information, which methods exist and how to bring structure to a mind map. After that you get to work on practical assignments yourself.

You work in a small group under the guidance of an experienced trainer who specialises in learning processes and memory. By comparing your work with that of fellow participants you gain new insights and immediate feedback. This means that by the end of the day you take away concrete tools that you can apply straight away in your work or studies.

Prior knowledge

No specific prior knowledge is required for this course. You do not need any experience with mindmapping or comparable techniques. An open attitude and a willingness to get started visually are enough to take part straight away.

    Frequently asked questions

The Mind Mapping course is suitable for anyone who wants to bring more structure to their thinking and working processes, whether that is brainstorming, planning projects, studying or setting personal goals. No prior knowledge is required. You follow the course in a classroom setting together with a small group of fellow participants.

During the Mindmapping course you will learn how to make ideas visual and process information more effectively. You will gain insight into how the brain works, the basic principles of mindmapping and well-known methods with their advantages and disadvantages. You will also practise with practical assignments, so that you can apply what you have learned directly to work, study or personal goals.

The Mindmapping course lasts , with theory and practice alternating. You start with the basics: how the brain works and which mindmapping methods are the most effective. After that you get to work yourself on practical assignments and compare your work with that of fellow participants. The course is taught in a classroom setting, including course material and guidance from an experienced trainer.

Yes, on completion of the Mindmapping course you will receive a certificate of participation from Learnit. This certificate confirms that you have successfully completed the classroom course. You can add it to your LinkedIn profile or CV to demonstrate that you are skilled in visual thinking, brainstorming techniques and structuring information effectively.

Yes, the Mind Mapping course can also be taken in-company. Learnit then delivers the course at your organisation's premises, for a group of colleagues at the same time. The content is tailored to your practical situation, such as project brainstorms, meeting structures or organising specialist information. The course is taught in a classroom setting by an experienced trainer. Request a tailored quotation for the exact price.

A YouTube tutorial or a free tool such as XMind, MindMeister or Miro will show you the technique, but gives you no feedback on your own mindmaps. You choose Learnit's classroom Mindmapping course if you want to change the way you think in a structural way, rather than simply learning to operate a tool. During the course day you receive theory on the way the brain works, you compare your mindmaps with those of fellow participants and you work under the guidance of a specialist in learning processes and memory. That gives you immediate correction of pitfalls, something self-study does not offer. Choose self-study if you purely want to explore the software. Choose the classroom course if you want to use mindmapping for complex work processes, study or decision-making.

A book or YouTube video explains the technique to you, but you do not get any feedback on your own mind maps. That is precisely where the benefit lies. During Learnit's classroom Mind Mapping course you work on practical assignments and compare your mind maps directly with those of fellow participants. This shows you where you lose structure, stay too textual or miss branches. The trainer specialises in learning processes and memory and can explain why a particular approach does or does not work for your brain. Self-study is suitable if you only want to know the basics. For anyone who really wants to use mind mapping for complex information, project planning or brainstorming sessions, practising in a classroom with immediate correction delivers more than a tutorial.

You can apply mind mapping straight after the course day. The (classroom) training course is built around practical assignments in which you immediately practise with your own work or study questions. By the end of the day you will have created several mind maps yourself and received feedback from the trainer and fellow participants. For simple applications – meeting minutes, brainstorming, project planning – the method works right away. For more complex applications, such as structuring a large body of knowledge or a multi-year plan, you will usually need two to four weeks of regular practice before it really flows. The course gives you the basic principles, well-known methods and insight into how the brain works; you then build up the routine yourself by using mind mapping consistently.

During Learnit's Mind Mapping course the emphasis is on the method, not on one specific tool. You learn the basic principles of effective mind mapping, how the brain works during visual thinking and well-known mind mapping methods with their advantages and disadvantages. You apply these principles regardless of whether you later work with pen and paper or with digital tools such as XMind, MindMeister or Miro. In the practical assignments you practise yourself and compare your work with that of fellow participants. This gives you insight into which working method suits your situation: paper for brainstorming and remembering, digital for collaborating and developing further. The course is taught in a classroom setting by a professional in the field of learning processes and memory.

Mindmapping has a sound basis in the way the brain processes information. The method was developed in the 1970s by Tony Buzan and builds on principles from cognitive psychology: the brain remembers visual patterns, colours and associations better than linear text. In Learnit's Mindmapping course we therefore spend part of the day on how the brain works and its relationship with visual thinking. You will learn why certain mindmapping methods are more effective than others and which pitfalls are common. The course is taught in a classroom setting by a trainer with expertise in learning processes and memory. You will therefore receive both the theory and practical assignments, so that you understand why the technique works and not just how to apply it.

Mindmapping and techniques such as Cornell notes or bullet journaling solve different problems. Cornell notes is a linear note-taking method, developed for summarising lectures and texts. Bullet journaling is mainly a planning system for tasks and habits. Pomodoro is a time management technique, not a thinking method. Mindmapping works radially from a central theme and is strong in association, brainstorming and seeing connections between separate pieces of information. You use it where overview and creativity come together: setting up a project, preparing a presentation, breaking down complex material or translating goals into actions. In the Mindmapping course you learn when mindmapping is the right choice and when another method suits better. The techniques do not exclude each other; they complement each other.
