Frequently asked questions

How long does the Scrum Master course take and what do I get for it?
The Scrum Master course at Learnit takes two consecutive days. You are taught in a classroom setting by an experienced trainer in a small group. The course materials, the Scrum games and the publication 'Succes met Scrum' are included. The optional Exin Scrum Master exam is taken online by yourself and falls outside the course. For the current price, see the course page.
What prior knowledge do you need for the Scrum Master course?
No specific prior knowledge is required for the Scrum Master course. It does help if you have an affinity with project-based working or if you lead teams. The course is aimed at team leaders, project managers, senior team members and anyone who fulfils or aspires to the role of Scrum Master. Basic knowledge of Agile is an advantage, but during the two-day course you first receive a general introduction to Scrum.
Is the Scrum Master course classroom-based or online?
Learnit's Scrum Master course is taught in a classroom setting by an experienced trainer. For two days you work together in a small group on a Scrum project and learn the material through Scrum games and practical exercises. This face-to-face delivery format gives you hands-on experience straight away and lets you discuss questions immediately with your trainer and fellow participants.
What course material and certificate do you receive with the Scrum Master course?
On the two-day Scrum Master course you receive various Scrum games and the publication 'Succes met Scrum' as course material. Afterwards you will receive a certificate of attendance from LearnIt. If you would also like to obtain an official certificate, you can sit the Exin Scrum Master exam online at home. Please indicate this in the comments field when you register.
Who is the Scrum Master course intended for?
The Scrum Master course is intended for team leaders, project managers and senior team members who fulfil the role of Scrum Master or are in line to do so. You are also welcome if you simply want to learn more about the tasks and responsibilities of a Scrum Master. You spend two days working in a classroom setting on a real Scrum project, so you gain practical experience within a team straight away.
Can the Scrum Master course also be taken in-company?
Yes, the Scrum Master course can be taken in-company at a location of your choice. This is worth considering if you want to train an entire team at once or tailor the content to a current project. The course takes two days and is taught in a classroom setting by an experienced trainer, with Scrum games that give you hands-on experience within your own context.
What is the difference between the role of Scrum Master and that of a traditional project manager?
A project manager manages the schedule, budget and scope, and assigns tasks to team members. A Scrum Master works differently: you do not direct, you facilitate. You guide the team, safeguard the Scrum process and remove the obstacles (impediments) that are holding the team back. Responsibility for what is built lies with the Product Owner. How it is built is up to the team itself. In Learnit's two-day Scrum Master course you learn this servant leadership attitude through Scrum games and a simulated Scrum project. In concrete terms, you practise facilitating the Sprint planning, the daily standup, the Sprint review and the retrospective. Choose this course if you want to move from classic project management to a role in which you coach teams rather than direct them.
How does this two-day Scrum Master course differ from simply reading the Scrum Guide on your own?
The Scrum Guide is a document of around 13 pages that describes the framework, but it offers no practical experience. In this two-day classroom course you practise the Scrum Master role through a real Scrum project and Scrum games. You go through a Sprint planning, daily stand-up, Sprint review and retrospective yourself under the guidance of an experienced trainer. You also learn how to remove impediments and work together with the Product Owner. These are situations you cannot practise from a text. You receive the book 'Succes met Scrum' as a reference work. Self-study is enough if you only want to understand the framework. This course is intended for those who are actually going to fill the role and want feedback on their own behaviour in the Scrum events.
