Why does a conversation with one person flow effortlessly, while with another you keep talking at cross purposes? In the DISC for Yourself course you gain insight into your own style and learn how to consciously connect with the behaviour of the people around you.

Description

DISC divides behaviour into four styles: Dominant, Influential, Steady and Conscientious. Beforehand you complete an online questionnaire and receive your personal profile report. In it you can read what your natural style is, how you adapt under pressure and where your strengths and pitfalls lie.

During the course day you work with that report. You recognise yourself in the descriptions, discover why certain colleagues give you energy while others irritate you, and learn to recognise the four styles by language, pace, body language and way of deciding.

After that you practise how to tailor your communication. How do you approach someone who makes decisions quickly? How do you give a thorough thinker the space they need? You bring in your own conversation situations and work on them through role-play.

At the end of the day you have a personal action plan that allows you to start the next working week right away.

Topics

  • The four DISC styles: Dominant, Influencing, Steady and Conscientious
  • Reading and interpreting your personal profile report
  • Your natural style versus your adapted style
  • Strengths, pitfalls and development points of your profile
  • Recognising styles by language use and choice of words
  • Recognising styles by pace, body language and decision-making patterns
  • Adapting your communication to each style
  • Understanding and bridging friction between styles
  • Analysing difficult conversations through the DISC lens
  • Role play with your own practical cases
  • Giving and receiving feedback per style
  • Personal action plan for the coming weeks

Result

After the course you know your own DISC profile and what characterises your natural style. You recognise the four behavioural styles in others and can adapt your approach accordingly, including in conversations you normally find difficult.

Specifically, by the end you will be able to:

  • reading your own profile report and explaining what it says about you
  • recognise the four DISC styles by language, pace and behaviour
  • identify which styles you connect with easily and where the friction lies
  • adapting your tone, pace and approach to the style of the person you are talking to
  • preparing a difficult conversation using DISC
  • consciously choose how you give feedback to someone with a different style
  • working on your development points through a personal action plan

Target audience

Do you want to understand yourself better and communicate more effectively with the people around you? Then this course is right for you.

The course is intended for:

  • employees who want to grow in conversations with colleagues, clients or managers
  • project leaders and consultants who work with many different people
  • salespeople and account managers who want to understand and convince clients better
  • HR professionals who want to apply style insight in conversations and teams
  • managers who want to improve communication within their team
  • anyone who wants to develop more self-insight and flexibility in communication

Teaching method

You work in a small group under the guidance of an experienced trainer who is certified in applying DISC in practice. Beforehand you complete the online DISC questionnaire and are sent your personal profile report. That report is the starting point for your learning process.

During the course itself, short explanations alternate with plenty of practice. You read your report, reflect on what you recognise in it, and practise style recognition using short cases and videos. In role plays you work on situations from your own job, so the theory immediately becomes practical.

The trainer consistently links DISC back to concrete moments from your own practice. At the end you draw up a personal action plan with concrete steps for the coming weeks.

Prior knowledge

No prior knowledge is required. An open attitude and a willingness to look at your own behaviour are enough. Beforehand, you complete an online DISC questionnaire, so that you start the course with your personal profile report.

Comments

You complete the DISC questionnaire online beforehand and receive your personal profile report. Bring that report and a concrete work situation with you to the course.

In-company

Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.

Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.

    Frequently asked questions

You can find the current price at the top right of this course page, along with the schedule, location and delivery format. For in-company or bespoke courses we are happy to provide a quotation on request.

No, you do not need any prior knowledge of DISC or other behavioural models. An open attitude and a willingness to look at your own behaviour are enough. Beforehand you complete an online questionnaire, after which you start the course with your personal profile report.

The course is intended for anyone who wants to understand themselves better and communicate more effectively. Think of employees, project leaders, consultants, salespeople, account managers, HR professionals and managers. In short, for anyone who works with a wide range of people and wants to do so more consciously.

You get to know your natural style: how you communicate, decide and react under pressure by nature. You also see your adapted style, in other words how you behave at work or in stressful situations. In addition, you gain insight into your strengths, your pitfalls and the styles you work with easily or with difficulty.

The course is given as standard in a classroom setting in a small group at our location. By arrangement, an online version or an in-company course at your own office is also possible. The course page shows which options are currently scheduled.

Yes, on completion you receive a certificate of participation from Learnit. You also go home with your personal DISC profile report and the action plan you drew up during the course.

The course has a very practical set-up. Short pieces of theory alternate with reflection on your own profile report, recognition exercises using short cases and role play based on situations from your own work. You receive direct feedback from the trainer and from fellow participants. The focus is on practising, not on sitting still and listening.

Reading a profile report gives you insight into yourself, but in the course you also learn to apply that information. You practise how to recognise the styles in others and how to adjust your behaviour in real conversations. The trainer links DISC to your own work situations and helps you see patterns that you would not pick up from a report alone.

At the end of the course you draw up a personal action plan with concrete steps for the coming weeks. Think of a difficult conversation that is coming up, a colleague with whom you want to improve communication or a client you want to understand better. You leave the course with a number of conversation tools you can put to use straight away.

DISC for yourself focuses on your personal development: your own profile, your style and how you improve communication with others. DISC for teams is intended for a complete team that wants to gain joint insight into the dynamics between them and work concretely on collaboration and communication within the team.

In a sales conversation it makes an enormous difference whether you are dealing with someone who decides quickly or someone who wants to go through every detail first. You learn to recognise your client's style quickly and to adapt to it: which questions you ask, how you present a proposal and how you handle objections. That has a knock-on effect on conversion and on the client relationship.

DISC is not a personality test but a behavioural model. It describes how you behave in certain situations, not who you are as a person. Everyone has all four styles within them, just in different proportions. So you use DISC as a language for understanding behaviour, not to pin a label on yourself or others.
