Managing people demands different qualities today than it did a few decades ago. Coaching, motivating and connecting are central. In this programme you develop a leadership style that suits you and your team.

Description

The role of the manager has shifted from task-based direction to coaching and motivating. Alongside digital skills, it is about soft skills such as coaching leadership, group dynamics, delegating and giving feedback. And of course about the classics: holding conversations, handling conflict and influencing effectively.

The programme combines classroom days with a personal intake, peer consultation, online coaching and a follow-up day. Through assignments and a case of your own, you apply what you learn directly in your day-to-day practice. In this way you build your personal leadership style step by step.

A separate online session focuses on leading remotely. You learn how to manage your team using online tools and experience first-hand how that works.

Result

After the programme you have a clear picture of your qualities and pitfalls as a manager. You are able to reflect on your own style, lead in a coaching and motivating way, formulate objectives and adapt your style to the people in front of you. You apply influencing techniques, deal with conflicts, delegate effectively and recognise group processes. You know how to foster trust and connection within a team, how to handle resistance and how to manage your people remotely as well. In addition, you conduct the usual conversations (performance reviews, feedback, PDP, absence) with more composure and direction.

Target audience

This programme is intended for managers who want to deepen their leadership qualities or get more out of their role. It is also suitable for employees moving into a managerial position who want to prepare for it in a targeted way.

Teaching method

The programme combines theory with plenty of practical exercise. You work with a case of your own, complete assignments between the blocks and practise conversations in a safe setting. Through peer consultation, an online coaching session with the trainer and a follow-up day, you embed what you have learned in your daily work.

Prior knowledge

No specific prior knowledge is required. Some work experience in a (prospective) managerial role helps you to link the material directly to your own practice.

Comments

Learning by doing. That is central to all our programmes. In a safe training environment we practise realistic situations from your daily practice in small groups (max. 8 participants per course). The more questions and cases you bring in yourself, the more you will get out of the programme. Our trainers combine teaching skills with their practical experience.

In-company

Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.

Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.

Language

The training is given in Dutch as standard. The trainer has a good command of English. English-language course material can be used. With a minimum enrolment of 3 participants, the training can also be given entirely in English.

Learning theory from a book that you can then hardly use in your work? Not at Learnit! Whichever training you take with us, you can put it to use at your workplace straight away. Because of the unique learning objectives you set together with the trainer at the start of the training. Because of the alternation between theory and (interactive) practical assignments. And by bringing the challenges you face in your daily work along to the training.

With directive leadership you give direction, take decisions and put forward solutions. With coaching leadership you help staff to arrive at insights and solutions themselves, by asking questions and giving them room. In the programme you learn when each style is effective and how to switch between the two.

Managing remotely calls for clear agreements, giving trust, short feedback moments and deliberate use of online interaction tools. The programme includes an online session in which you practise this and experience the pros and cons first hand.

You practise selection interviews, performance reviews, feedback conversations, PDP and development discussions, absence interviews and chairing a meeting. In this way you build up a broad repertoire of conversations that you can put to use straight away.

Resistance is often a signal that something is going on below the surface. You learn to recognise, acknowledge and explore resistance instead of pushing it away. During the programme you practise conversation techniques that help turn resistance into movement.

Personal leadership begins with self-insight: knowing what your qualities and pitfalls are, and how you come across to others. Through reflection, feedback and practising with real-life situations, you build a style that suits you and is effective for your team.
