Payroll tax is complex material that changes constantly. During this course you get to grips with the current rates, tables, allowances and schemes, so that you can complete the payroll tax return independently and without errors.
As the person responsible for the payroll administration, you deal with varying situations every day: every employee has their own pay structure, and legislation and regulations change regularly. Which tables and rates apply now? How do you calculate taxable pay? And how do you make optimal use of credits, allowances and benefits in kind?
During this course you will get answers to all these questions. Day 1 focuses on the basics: what is payroll tax, how does it differ from payroll levies, and how do you calculate gross, net and taxable pay using the current tables. On day 2 you work with allowances, benefits in kind and schemes such as the work-related costs scheme, tax credits and remittance reductions.
The course is practically oriented. You work with realistic cases from your own field and receive tips you can apply immediately to set up payroll tax in your organisation more accurately and more cost-effectively.
Day 1. Payroll tax: what and why?
Day 2. Payroll tax return: allowances, benefits in kind and schemes
On completion of this course you know the difference between payroll levies and payroll tax, you can independently produce a correct gross-to-net salary calculation and calculate taxable pay. You know which payroll tax rates and tables exist, which deductions and social security contributions apply, which allowances and benefits in kind you may offer an employee and when you qualify for a remittance reduction. You make optimal use of reductions and schemes and have up-to-date knowledge of payroll tax legislation.
This course is intended for (financial) administrative staff, payroll administrators, HR staff, personnel administration staff and anyone within the organisation who is responsible for payroll tax and the payroll tax return to the Dutch Tax Authorities.
The course is classroom-based and practical. You work in a small group with an experienced trainer from the field. Theory alternates with exercises and case studies that reflect situations from your own work, so that you can apply what you have learned directly to your organisation's payroll administration.
No specific prior knowledge is required. A basic knowledge of payroll administration or HR is an advantage.
Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.
Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.
The training is given in Dutch as standard. The trainer has a good command of English. English-language course material can be used. With a minimum enrolment of 3 participants, the training can also be given entirely in English.

Because of the unique learning objectives you set together with the trainer at the start of the training. Because of the alternation between theory and (interactive) practical assignments. No suitable start date? Send us a date request. Then we will look together at how we can still meet your training needs.

- Payroll Tax
Learnit reviews
You learn how to calculate payroll tax and prepare the payroll tax return. Day 1 focuses on gross pay, net pay and taxable pay, along with the current tables, rates and legislation. On day 2 you work with tax credits, allowances, benefits in kind, the work-related costs scheme, social insurance and payroll tax remittance reductions.
The course is intended for (financial) administrative staff, payroll administrators, HR staff, personnel administration staff and anyone within the organisation who is responsible for payroll tax and the payroll tax return to the Dutch Tax Administration.
No specific prior knowledge is required. A basic knowledge of payroll administration, financial administration or HR will help you get started more quickly, but is not a requirement.
Wage tax is the tax that the employer withholds from the employee's salary. Payroll tax is the broader term and, in addition to wage tax, also includes national insurance contributions. In the course you learn how both elements are connected and how to process them correctly in the return.
Yes, on completion you receive a Learnit certificate of participation. This shows that you have attended the Payroll Tax course and have mastered the material covered.
Yes, the course is also available as an in-company or tailor-made course. That is useful if several colleagues want to take the course at the same time or if you want to focus on specific situations within your own organisation. Request a quote for the options.
Taxable pay is gross pay plus taxable allowances and benefits in kind, less deductions such as the employee's pension contribution. It forms the basis for payroll tax and national insurance contributions. During the course you practise with realistic cases in order to carry out this calculation correctly.
Under the work-related costs scheme (werkkostenregeling, WKR), you as an employer can spend part of your taxable wage bill on untaxed allowances and benefits for your employees. Above that discretionary scope you pay 80% final levy. In the course you learn how to calculate the discretionary scope, which costs are specifically exempt and how to make optimal use of the WKR.
The most important ones are the general tax credit and the employed person's tax credit. There are also credits such as the young disabled person's tax credit and the elderly person's tax credit. You only apply them if the employee requests this via the payroll tax statement. In the course you learn which credits apply when and how to process them.
A payroll tax remittance reduction means that, as an employer, you have to remit less payroll tax. Well-known examples are the remittance reduction for research and development work (WBSO) and the schemes relating to younger or older employees. During the course you receive an overview of current schemes and learn to assess when your organisation can benefit from them.
The rates and tables are adjusted annually, usually with effect from 1 January. In addition, there are regular changes to schemes such as the work-related costs scheme, pension legislation and tax credits. During the course you work with the most up-to-date tables and discuss the recent changes with the trainer.
You can find the current price at the top right of this course page, along with the schedule, location and delivery format. For in-company or bespoke courses we are happy to provide a quotation on request.
