Portfolio Management

You manage a portfolio in which projects, budgets and strategic choices are constantly shifting. In this course, you learn how to get a grip on this with Agile as the working method and IPMA as the structure.

Description

A portfolio is more than a list of projects. It is the way in which your organisation translates its strategy into concrete choices: which project takes priority, which risks do you accept, and how do you allocate people and budget? In this course you are given a method for answering those questions time and again.

You work with two methods alongside each other. IPMA gives you the structure: roles, frameworks and monitoring of your portfolio. Agile gives you the working method: adjusting in short sprints based on feedback and results. Together they ensure that your portfolio stays tight on the main lines and flexible in execution.

The course has an interactive set-up. You alternate theory with practical examples, role plays and assignments from your own work. You go home with an action plan that you can apply straight away.

Result

After this course you know how to build, manage and adjust a portfolio based on your organisation's strategy. You can prioritise projects, allocate budgets and measure progress using KPIs. You apply Agile and IPMA in combination, motivate colleagues in the approach and recognise pitfalls before they become problems. You go home with an action plan for your own portfolio.

Target audience

This course is intended for portfolio managers, programme managers, project managers, PMO staff and managers who are responsible for a project portfolio. If you are moving into a role in which you manage several projects at once, this course is also right for you.

Teaching method

The course is interactive and practice-oriented. You alternate theory with practical examples, role plays and assignments. There is ample attention for your own cases: you put questions, experiences and problems from your work to the trainer and the group. You work towards a plan of action for your own portfolio.

Prior knowledge

No specific prior education is required for this course. Experience with project-based working or a project role will help you apply the material to your own practice more quickly.

The training is given in Dutch as standard. The trainer has a good command of English. English-language course material can be used. With a minimum enrolment of 3 participants, the training can also be given entirely in English.
