Do you want to create presentations that make an impression? During this open learning day you learn step by step how to use PowerPoint for strong slides, animations and visual effects. Optionally, you can also spend time on PowerPoint with Copilot.

Description

In this PowerPoint Basics course you learn step by step how to build a professional presentation. You work on the basics of PowerPoint, enter text and make your slides more attractive with charts, illustrations, videos and animations. You also practise operating PowerPoint during the presentation itself.

The course optionally covers PowerPoint in combination with Microsoft 365 Copilot, so that you can see how AI can help you create presentations.

You work in a small group under the guidance of an experienced trainer, who tailors the content to your level and learning needs. When booking, you indicate which version of PowerPoint you use, so that you work with the right course material. Your own practical examples are welcome.

Topics

  • The basics of PowerPoint and the working environment
  • Opening and editing an existing presentation
  • Building your first presentation
  • Working with slide layouts and templates
  • Adding animations and transitions
  • Using illustrations, figures and drawing objects
  • Inserting tables and charts
  • Creating organisation charts
  • Preparing notes pages and handouts
  • Running and controlling the presentation smoothly
  • Optional: using PowerPoint with Microsoft 365 Copilot

Result

After this course you will know how PowerPoint works and you will be able to build a polished presentation independently. You enter text, choose a suitable slide layout and enrich your slides with illustrations, charts, tables and animations. You know how to create an organisation chart and how to use notes pages and handouts. During playback you operate PowerPoint with ease. You will optionally also have been introduced to Copilot in PowerPoint, so that you can use AI when setting up and refining your presentations.

Target audience

This course is intended for anyone who wants to create presentations with PowerPoint and has little or no experience of doing so. Whether you are a student who wants to present assignments, a professional who wants to convince colleagues or clients, or a volunteer who wants to tell their story more powerfully in visual terms: after this course you will be able to produce a polished presentation yourself. No prior knowledge of PowerPoint is required. It is helpful, though, if you are reasonably familiar with Windows and working with files.

Teaching method

You take this course in an open learning format over a full day. This means you work through the course material at your own pace, with an experienced trainer alongside you to help as soon as you get stuck or want to go into more depth. You decide which topics to focus on, so that you work on what is relevant to you. By practising with PowerPoint's features straight away, you apply what you have learnt immediately and remember it better.

Prior knowledge

You do not need any specific prior knowledge for this course. Can you use a computer and do you know how to open and save a file? Then you can get started straight away. Experience with PowerPoint is not required; you start right from the basics.

Comments

None in particular.

Course format

This training is offered on the basis of our Open Learning teaching method. This means that you work independently, with active guidance from our trainer, to master the material. That way you can achieve your learning objectives at your own pace, without being held back by fellow participants working faster or slower. The trainer makes sure that you stay on schedule and meet your learning objectives. This form of learning leaves room for a tailored approach. You have the opportunity to bring in examples from your own practice and IT environment, so that your learning is even more specific. more...

In-company

Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.

Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.

Frequently asked questions

The PowerPoint Basics course takes one day and is given in the open learning format. You work at your own pace on assignments, with an experienced trainer beside you for explanation and immediate feedback. At the start you discuss your starting level and learning objectives together, so that you practise specifically the parts that matter to you.

No, you do not need any prior knowledge of PowerPoint for the PowerPoint Basics course. You start from the basics and build up your skills step by step. It is useful, however, if you can work comfortably with Windows and are familiar with standard mouse and keyboard operations. The trainer adjusts the pace and the topics to your level, so that you learn exactly what you need.

You learn PowerPoint in the version you use yourself. When booking, you indicate which version is installed on your workstation. The planners make sure you receive the course material that matches that version, so everything you learn can be applied straight away. Do you work with Microsoft 365? Then you can optionally also get acquainted with Copilot in PowerPoint.

Yes, Copilot for PowerPoint is covered optionally in this course. Indicate when you book that you would like to spend time on this, and the trainer will tailor the content accordingly. You will learn how to use Copilot to quickly generate a first outline for a presentation, have slides completed and receive suggestions for formatting and imagery.

Yes, on completion of the PowerPoint Basics course you will receive a certificate of participation. This certificate confirms that you have attended the course and have mastered the main features of PowerPoint. You can add it to your CV or LinkedIn profile to demonstrate your presentation software skills to employers and clients.

Yes, the PowerPoint Basics course is also available in-company. You then receive a tailored course at your own workplace, geared to the level and requirements of your team. Handy if several colleagues want to learn to work with PowerPoint at the same time. You can bring in your own practical examples, so that the course ties in directly with your day-to-day work. Request a quote via the course page.

The PowerPoint Basics course is suitable for anyone who has to create presentations in their work but has little experience with PowerPoint. Think of employees who have to explain a project internally, teachers who want to support their teaching material visually, entrepreneurs who want to pitch their product or interns presenting their final report. No prior knowledge of PowerPoint is required, but basic knowledge of Windows is. The course focuses on functional application, not on graphic design. Do you already have experience building slides, and inserting animations and charts? Then the follow-up PowerPoint Advanced course is a better fit. Not sure about your level? The trainer will discuss your starting level at the beginning of the day and tailor the exercises accordingly.

Self-study via YouTube or online tutorials works fine if you want to look up individual functions, but you miss the structure and the immediate feedback. In the PowerPoint Basics course at Learnit you work in an open learning format with an experienced trainer who discusses your starting level and tailors the material to what you need in practice. You practise with your own work examples and get immediate answers to questions that a tutorial leaves unanswered. You not only learn individual buttons, but build a complete presentation in one day, with text, charts, illustrations, animations and notes pages. The result: after one day you can produce a polished presentation independently, instead of puzzling over separate videos for weeks.

A classroom-based PowerPoint Basics course makes more sense than an e-learning course if you want to work specifically on your own presentations and receive direct feedback on what you produce. At LearnIt you follow this course in an open learning format: you work through the material at your own pace, with an experienced trainer alongside you for explanations, questions and discussing practical examples. That differs from an e-learning course, where you only follow videos and exercises without personal guidance. Choose a classroom-based course if you want results more quickly, want to discuss your own work files or find it difficult to keep going on your own with online material. An e-learning course is a better fit if you simply want to revise the theory and do not expect to have questions. You can bring your own practical example to the course and work on it specifically.

When you experiment on your own, you mainly discover what you were already looking for. The PowerPoint Basics course gives you a structured build-up: from the basics through slide layout and animations to charts, organisation charts and handouts. An experienced trainer looks over your shoulder, corrects inefficient working methods and points out features you would otherwise never come across. Think of keyboard shortcuts, clever reuse of slide layouts and the correct use of animation effects without making your presentation look untidy. You can bring your own practical examples, so that you work directly on presentations from your own working environment. Optionally, you also learn how Microsoft 365 Copilot helps you set up slides. The difference with self-study lies in pace and feedback: in a single day you build a foundation that would take you weeks of searching on YouTube.

Straight after the course day you can build a complete presentation on your own. During the open learning day you created your first presentation under guidance, so the basic steps are already at your fingertips: adding slides, formatting text, inserting illustrations and charts, applying animations and running the presentation. In practice, participants find that within a week of the course they can quickly put together a simple business presentation of 10 to 15 slides. More complex elements such as organisation charts, layered animations or consistent slide formatting via masters take a little more practice. The more often you use PowerPoint for real work presentations, the faster that routine develops. Bringing a practical example from your own working environment to the course speeds up that process, because you are working on something usable straight away.

Copilot in PowerPoint is particularly useful when you want to quickly generate a first outline of a presentation based on a topic or a Word document, when you want existing slides summarised or rewritten, and when you want suggestions for suitable images or a logical slide structure. It is less suitable for presentations with strict corporate identity requirements or highly specialist content. In the PowerPoint Basics course you can optionally give attention to Copilot. You then learn how to write effective prompts, how to assess and adjust generated slides, and when it is better to work manually. A Microsoft 365 licence with Copilot is required for this. Please indicate when booking whether you would like to include this component.
