Frequently asked questions

Who is the Train the Trainer course suitable for?
The Train the Trainer course is suitable for anyone who gives courses or wants to start doing so, but has not been specifically trained for it. Think of subject-matter experts who want to pass on their knowledge, novice trainers looking for a firmer foundation and experienced trainers who want to sharpen their approach. No specific prior education is required; an affinity with knowledge transfer and with groups is enough.
Do you receive a certificate after the Train the Trainer course?
Yes, on completing the Train the Trainer course you receive a certificate of attendance from Learnit. This certificate confirms that you have attended the classroom course and have actively practised the trainer skills covered, including designing a course, working with different teaching formats and delivering your own mini-training on the final day.
Which working methods do you learn to apply during the Train the trainer course?
During the Train the Trainer course you learn to use various teaching formats to hold participants' attention and convey knowledge effectively. You practise with interactive programmes, case supervision and alternating between theory and practice. You receive feedback and insight into the effect of your own approach. At the end you deliver a mini-training yourself in which you apply what you have learned.
Do you need prior knowledge or prior education for the Train the trainer course?
No, for the Train the Trainer course you do not need any specific prior education or knowledge. It is useful, however, if you already have some experience in transferring knowledge, or if you will soon be standing in front of a group. In an individual intake beforehand, your learning objectives are identified so that the programme of the classroom course matches your situation and experience.
Can you also take the Train the Trainer course in-company?
Yes, the Train the Trainer course can also be delivered in-company at your organisation's premises. The programme is then tailored to your team's learning objectives, prior knowledge and practical experience. The final programme is determined through an individual intake beforehand. That way the course ties in closely with the everyday situations your trainers encounter.
How does the Train the Trainer course compare with self-study or an online course in teaching methods?
Learnit's Train the Trainer course is classroom-based and personal in its set-up. The biggest difference compared with self-study or e-learning lies in two elements: direct feedback on your own behaviour as a trainer and delivering a mini training course with personal tips from an experienced trainer. You will not get that mirror in an online module. Self-study works perfectly well for theory around learning objectives, learning styles and working methods. But to develop your personal training style, deal with resistance and hold your own in front of a group, you need a physical setting with fellow participants. Choose self-study if you mainly want to acquire knowledge. Choose this classroom course if you want to sharpen your skills and receive concrete feedback on how you come across to a group.
I have years of experience as a trainer, but I feel I am stuck in the same patterns. What will I get out of the Train the Trainer course?
For experienced trainers, the main benefit lies in the outside perspective on your training style. During the course you receive targeted feedback on how you come across in front of a group, how you respond to resistance and which patterns you unconsciously repeat. You deliver a mini training course yourself and receive extensive feedback on it. For seasoned trainers, that part is often the most confronting and the most instructive, because your own blind spots become visible. You also broaden your repertoire of working methods and practise with difficult situations such as differing levels within the group. This is mainly worthwhile if you bring concrete learning objectives with you; these are discussed in an individual intake beforehand and help determine the final programme. For trainers who are only looking for theoretical depth, a specialist book is cheaper.
What is the difference between the Train the Trainer course and a teaching qualification for teachers in education?
Learnit's Train the Trainer course focuses on delivering training to adults in a work context, not on teaching pupils or students within a school system. The emphasis is on short, interactive courses in which behavioural change and skills are central, not on a multi-year curriculum. You work on your personal training style, on setting up a course from preparation through to evaluation, on dealing with resistance and on varying your working methods. A teacher training programme or pedagogical module often lasts one to four years and leads to a teaching qualification; this course does not. You finish with your own mini-training session and receive targeted feedback on it. Choose this course if you deliver, or want to deliver, training to professionals, teams or clients. Not if you want to teach in mainstream education.
