C++ is a powerful programming language used for system software, games, embedded applications and large business applications. If you can already program in C, C++ is the logical next step. You gain access to object-oriented techniques, an extensive standard library and modern language constructs. In this course you build on your knowledge of C and discover how to write scalable, maintainable code with C++. You practise with realistic examples and get to work yourself after each module.
This course takes you through the full breadth of C++. You start with the differences between C and C++ and learn how to apply function overloading, references and namespaces. After that you delve into the Standard C++ Library, including the string class, I/O streams and file handling.
Next comes the heart of C++: the class concept. You will learn how to design objects with constructors, destructors and member functions. You will apply the object-oriented principles of abstraction, encapsulation, inheritance and polymorphism, and see how C++ supports them.
Advanced topics also receive plenty of attention. You work with dynamic memory allocation, copy constructors, operator overloading, static members, friends, virtual functions, abstract classes, multiple inheritance, templates and exception handling. You finish with a first introduction to the STL, including containers, iterators and algorithms.
After this course you will write C++ programs independently and recognise the strength of object-oriented design. You will work with classes, inheritance and polymorphism and use templates for reusable code. You will use the Standard C++ Library for strings, streams and file handling, and apply the basic components of the STL. You will also know how to manage dynamic memory, overload operators and handle errors properly with exception handling. You will have a solid basis for developing further into a professional C++ programmer.
This course is intended for programmers who want to make the move from C to C++. You already have experience of programming in C and now want to learn to work in an object-oriented way in a powerful, widely used language. The course is suitable for software developers, embedded engineers, technical engineers and anyone who wants to learn to write professional C++ code. If you work in a team that uses C++ and want to build up your knowledge quickly, this is also the right place for you.
The course is classroom-based and intensive in its set-up. You work in a small group under the guidance of an experienced software development trainer. Theory and practice alternate continuously: each topic starts with an explanation and examples, after which you immediately get to work on exercises yourself. This way you actively process every concept and ask questions at the moment they matter. You finish each day with a working code environment and concrete knowledge that you can apply straight away.
You have a working knowledge of the basic concepts of C programming, such as variables, data types, functions, pointers, structs and control flow. If you do not yet have this knowledge, we recommend taking the Programming in C course first. With that foundation you will get the most out of the pace and depth of this course.
On completion of the course you receive the official "Programming in C++" certificate from Learnit.
The training is given in Dutch as standard. The trainer has a good command of English. English-language course material can be used. With a minimum enrolment of 3 participants, the training can also be given entirely in English.
At Learnit you will always find a course that takes you further. From (technical) IT skills to communication or personal leadership. You can also choose the training format that suits you best: a classroom course, a tailor-made course at your own office, an online course or an e-learning. We have the right course and the right format for everyone. Because learning in the way that suits you best delivers the best results.
Personal attention and a pleasant atmosphere. Whether you take a course with us, at your office or on your own PC, we make sure you feel at home enough to push your boundaries.
New opportunities arise when you get moving. Stay sharp. Keep taking new steps. We encourage you to take the plunge and really go for it.
Discover something new. Build on your strengths. And choose your own path. We help you grow with training courses and learning formats that genuinely suit you.
We always think in terms of possibilities and win-win. And every day we work on new solutions for tomorrow. By offering training courses that leave you well prepared for the future.
We don't make empty promises. What we do offer is quality, knowledge and experience. A broad range of courses, made possible by our inspired staff and trainers.
We listen to what matters to you. To what you need. Because that is where our solution, our tailored approach, begins. Understanding each other properly and communicating clearly: that is what we believe in.
Taking a training course at Learnit means learning together. Together with your experienced trainer, together with your course group or together with your colleagues. And whether you take the training at home, at your office or at one of our training locations, we are always available to help you. To share our knowledge with you in a way that is genuinely useful to you. Getting further together through personal attention and understanding each other well; that is what we believe in.
Learning theory from a book that you can then hardly use in your work? Not at Learnit! Whichever training you take with us, you can put it to use at your workplace straight away. Because of the unique learning objectives you set together with the trainer at the start of the training. Because of the alternation between theory and (interactive) practical assignments. And by bringing the challenges you face in your daily work along to the training.

You learn to program in C++. You work with function overloading, namespaces, the string class, I/O streams and file handling. After that you dive into classes, object-oriented principles, dynamic memory allocation, operator overloading, inheritance and polymorphism. Templates, exception handling and the basics of the STL are also covered.
This course is intended for programmers who can already program in C and want to make the step to C++. Think of software developers, embedded engineers and technicians who want to learn to work professionally in an object-oriented way.
You have knowledge of the basic concepts of C programming: variables, data types, functions, pointers, structs and control flow. If you do not have this knowledge yet, the Programming in C course is good preparation.
The course is built up of blocks of theory, followed by practical exercises. You work through each part yourself on your laptop and in this way build up your C++ skills step by step. The trainer covers each theme with examples and helps you along during the exercises.
The course is classroom-based. You attend the lessons in a small group at Learnit, together with other participants and guided by an experienced trainer. This way you can ask questions and learn directly from the trainer and your fellow participants.
The course is taught by an experienced software development trainer with extensive practical experience in C++. The trainer not only knows the language inside out, but also knows how to apply C++ in real projects.
Afterwards you will receive a Learnit certificate as proof of attendance. You will also take home your practice materials and notes, so that you can look things up later and go through the exercises again.
Make sure your C basics are fresh. If you brush up on your knowledge of pointers, structs, functions and memory usage in C, you will be able to switch to C++ more quickly. A working development environment on your laptop is also useful, but not compulsory.
If you are unable to attend, please contact Learnit in good time. We will look for a suitable solution together, for example by moving your participation to a later start date.
Yes, on completion you receive a certificate from Learnit. This is a useful record of your participation and the material covered, which you can add to your CV or LinkedIn profile.
Registering is easy via the course page on the Learnit website. Choose a start date that suits you and fill in the registration form. You will then receive a confirmation by e-mail with all the practical information.
You will find the current price at the top right of the course page.
