In this classroom course you learn to program in C#. You build object-oriented applications using classes, inheritance, interfaces, exception handling, collections, generics and events.

  • You learn C# by doing plenty of programming yourself in Visual Studio
  • You gain a solid foundation in object-oriented development
  • Small groups with personal guidance from an experienced trainer

C# is a modern programming language from Microsoft and a mainstay of the .NET platform. Its syntax resembles Java, but it is known for its readable code and efficient use of the processor. In this course you learn how to work with C# in Visual Studio. You start with the basics and build up to object-oriented techniques such as inheritance, interfaces and polymorphism. By the end you can build C# applications independently.

Description

C# (pronounced C-Sharp) was developed by Microsoft and is widely used for building applications on the Windows platform. The language has much in common with Java, but stands out for its readable code and good performance. C# is an important part of the .NET framework and its compatibility with Windows is excellent. You can also port code to other platforms, such as Android and iOS, which makes C# a versatile choice.

During this course you will work in Microsoft Visual Studio and learn step by step how to build programs. You start with data types, methods and flow control and then move on to object-oriented programming. Topics such as classes, objects, inheritance, polymorphism and exception handling are covered in detail. You will also work with collections, generics, delegates and events. The material is supported by literature and slides, and you apply what you learn straight away by programming yourself in the course environment.

Topics

  • Data types and flow control
  • Methods and parameters
  • Arrays and enumerations
  • Value types and reference types
  • Classes, objects and constructors
  • The this keyword
  • Inheritance and polymorphism
  • Exception handling
  • Interfaces and collections
  • Generics
  • Delegates and events
  • Object lifetime

Result

After this course you will be able to write programs in C# independently. You work smoothly in Visual Studio and understand the main principles of object-oriented programming. You create your own classes, use inheritance and polymorphism and apply interfaces in your code. You know how to handle errors with exception handling and how to work with collections, generics, delegates and events. This gives you a solid basis to develop further as a C# developer or to extend your knowledge towards .NET and web development.

Target audience

This course is intended for programmers who already have experience with another programming language and want to explore C# in more depth. Think of developers with a background in Java, Python, PHP, JavaScript or C++ who want to move to the Microsoft platform. If you increasingly work with .NET applications and want to learn to program in C# yourself, this is also the right place for you.

Teaching method

The course is classroom-based and taught in small groups, so that you receive plenty of personal attention. Theory and practice alternate. After each explanation you immediately get to work in Visual Studio on assignments that match the material. Your trainer is an experienced developer who guides you while you program and gives feedback on your code. You receive course material and slides that you can also consult after the course.

Prior knowledge

You have experience with at least one other programming language. It does not matter much which one, as long as you know the basic concepts such as variables, functions, loops and conditions. Prior knowledge of object-oriented programming is an advantage, but not a requirement. We cover the object-oriented concepts during the course.

Language

The training is given in Dutch as standard. The trainer has a good command of English. English-language course material can be used. With a minimum enrolment of 3 participants, the training can also be given entirely in English.

  • "High-quality content of a high standard. Karijn knows what he is talking about and, thanks to his broad knowledge, is able to go into depth on topics and pitch them well to the participants. As a result, the pace was judged well too. He was also flexible in view of our working hours. We took a C# course at our own location as experienced C programmers."
