Peer consultation is a powerful method that allows colleagues to learn from each other's experiences on an equal footing. In this course you discover how to set up worthwhile peer consultation meetings, guide a group, and arrive together at concrete insights and new behaviour.
More and more organisations are asking staff to work independently and in a self-directed way. As a result, direct contact with colleagues on the work floor is decreasing, while the need to exchange experiences is actually growing. Peer consultation offers a fitting answer to this.
In this course you are introduced to peer supervision as a method in which colleagues come together on a voluntary and equal basis to learn from each other. You work with a clear structure and a range of models and working methods, which makes every session varied and instructive. You work on personal cases from your own working practice: from professional issues to questions about personal performance.
You learn how to set up, facilitate and deepen a peer consultation meeting. Topics covered include the preconditions and ground rules, the role of the peer consultation facilitator, formulating the working question, conversation techniques, constructive confrontation, and giving and receiving feedback. The process is enquiring and reflective in nature, and produces concrete tools that you can apply directly in your own team.
The course is practice-oriented: you experience for yourself what peer supervision means, in a small group and in a safe learning environment.
During this course the following topics, among others, are covered:
After this course you will know what peer supervision involves and what role the peer supervision facilitator plays. You will be able to set up a peer supervision group independently, because you have experienced for yourself during the course how it works. You will know how to introduce peer supervision within your organisation and how to respond to the group process in your team. You will also have become acquainted with various working methods, conversation techniques and ways of giving and receiving constructive feedback.
This course is suitable for anyone who wants to set up or facilitate a peer consultation group. You will probably recognise yourself in one or more of these points:
You want to teach staff to work together better towards a common goal, you want to increase mutual trust within your team, you want to develop your communication skills and coaching qualities further, you want to gain a clear picture of the relationships and group processes within your team, so that you can work on change in a targeted way.
Do you work hybrid or largely remotely? Then peer supervision offers extra value: it brings structure and connection to a team that meets less naturally in the workplace.
This course centres on 'doing and experiencing'. You work actively with peer consultation methods by practising peer consultation sessions yourself under the guidance of an experienced trainer. This way you notice straight away how it works and what it delivers.
Before the course, the trainer holds an intake interview with you to clarify your personal learning objectives. Based on this, the trainer puts together the final programme, so that the content matches your day-to-day practice.
We work in a small group of no more than eight participants. This creates a safe atmosphere in which you can calmly experiment with new conversation techniques, give and receive feedback, and reflect on your own role. We alternate theory with exercises, case studies from your own work and group assignments.
No specific prior knowledge is required for this course. Are you interested in peer consultation and would you like to learn how to facilitate or set up a peer consultation group within your team or organisation? Then you are very welcome.
Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.
Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.
The training is given in Dutch as standard. The trainer has a good command of English. English-language course material can be used. With a minimum enrolment of 3 participants, the training can also be given entirely in English.
When would you like to start?

Learning theory from a book that you can then hardly use in your work? Not at Learnit! Whichever training you take with us, you can put it to use at your workplace straight away. Because of the unique learning objectives you set together with the trainer at the start of the training. Because of the alternation between theory and (interactive) practical assignments. And by bringing the challenges you face in your daily work along to the training.

What others say about this course
Peer Supervision: learning with and from each other course reviews - Average score 8.5 from 18 reviews
“Even if you are already an experienced peer consultation facilitator, it is certainly worth adding this course to your toolbox. Good to pause and consider the theory and to realise where your points for improvement as a facilitator lie.”
R. de Haas, De Haas en De Jong Advocaten en Mediators - Intervision: learning with and from each other
“There was enough variety in the course and the content was handled flexibly. Nothing was covered simply because it 'had to be'. The trainer clearly knows her subject. She was able to explain everything well and clearly so that everyone understood it. Nor did she move on to another topic if someone was not yet entirely clear. She also gave me as a participant the confidence to apply what I had learnt myself during the course.”
J. Duinmaijer, Veiligheidsregio Noord-Holland-Noord - Peer Consultation: learning with and from each other
“The content was extremely instructive. My aim was to learn how to run a peer supervision session myself. I still find it daunting, but I have gained so much to draw on that I feel confident and dare to deliver a course myself. The trainer is very experienced and has broad knowledge of peer supervision techniques and of the human psyche. The trainer added great value; thanks to her way of working these were two fantastic days. Days with a golden edge. It feels like a gift to yourself.”
P. Bosgraaf, Noorderpoort - Peer Consultation: learning with and from each other

N. van Westen, Tijdelijke Commissie Mijnbouwschade Groningen - Intervision: learning with and from each other
“The course is short but powerful for learning everything about peer consultation. From start to finish you learn how to plan a peer consultation meeting. From logistics to depth and content. Everything is covered. I now feel far more confident about offering peer consultation in a good and pleasant way for my work. I attach a lot of value to that.”
S. Peereboom - Young Society - Peer Supervision: learning with and from each other
"A good training course for getting started as an intervision facilitator yourself. It has given me the confidence to stand in front of a group. The trainer knows what she is talking about and explains what she means very clearly. She gives usable feedback. She explains models well and gives good examples. She also makes sure the technology works properly and is helpful."
W. Kerdijk, Instuuut Mijnbouwschade Groningen- Peer Supervision: learning with and from each other
"A really enjoyable course! We were a small group, which meant there was plenty of attention for each other's input and a safe atmosphere was created quickly. Something the trainer also did well, incidentally. Accessible information that can be applied straight away. The first part was more theory and the second part more practice. The trainer challenged us and pushed us to deal with less straightforward situations as well. Highly recommended if you have no experience in facilitating intervision! Practical and applicable."
B. Atsma, GGD HM - Intervision: learning with and from each other
“I thought the two-day peer supervision course via Zoom was a great success. I was sceptical about Zoom at first, but I was very surprised at how well the trainer had prepared this course by first making personal contact to establish learning objectives and putting together a really good tailor-made course. The trainer is very professional, gets her knowledge across well and adapts, steers and connects. The diversity of the participants made it great fun and there was a lot of exchange. Everyone wanted to get as much out of it as possible. I would definitely take a course with this organisation again.”
J. Verbaan, GGD JGZ Groningen - Peer Consultation: learning with and from each other
“I thought the content was good. The different levels were catered for well. It was good that extra information had been added to the syllabus. I found the trainer very pleasant. A great deal of knowledge. Able to keep control and help us through the material. Learnit Training is a professional organisation that holds quality in high regard. Customer contact was very courteous and solution-oriented. They thought along with me.”
O. Ruijters - Peer Supervision: learning with and from each other
“The trainer was open and knowledgeable. A pleasant and effective rapport developed within the group. Using Zoom went perfectly well. That was partly because the group was not too large. The trainer facilitated it very well.”
S. Boon, Veiligheidsregio Kennemerland - Peer Consultation: learning with and from each other
“An excellent basic course for the novice peer supervision facilitator. For more depth, for instance on probing questions and varying working methods, a follow-up is worthwhile. So I'm looking forward to the planned 'reunion day' – peer supervision for the peer supervision facilitator, you might say.”
H. auf der Haar, Maandag Interim Professionals B.V. - Peer Consultation: learning with and from each other
"G Stoopendaal, Gemeente Cromstreijen - "Are you looking for a practical course on organising peer consultation? Then this one comes highly recommended: you can definitely get started with a peer consultation group the next day." - Rating: 9.0"
- Peer Consultation: learning with and from each other
"The intervision course gave me a great deal of insight. Asking follow-up questions in the right way so that you obtain the information that matters. It made clear that the process is more important than the product. Keeping an overview as a discussion leader, what you should and should not do."
T. van der Heijden-van de Pol, Van Neynsl- Peer Supervision: learning with and from each other
“I was given plenty of practical tools for facilitating peer supervision, and for daring to keep asking until you get to the heart of what is difficult. There were also tips on preparing and structuring a peer supervision session, very useful. And I even came away with 20 different methods to try out. Excellent! What appealed to me most was that the trainer went into the 'depth', so that the real questions came to the surface. That is often hard to uncover during peer supervision. I also noticed that the trainer responded to what was happening in the group. That made the course 'tailor-made'.”
J. Padding, Sensoor Zuid-Holland Zuid en Midden - Peer Consultation: learning with and from each other
“Why study management techniques and psychology for years? This course is the fast path to discovering how to make an organization, and everyone in it, totally involved, and totally successful!”
K. McGann, Atlas Gezondheid- Peer Supervision: learning with and from each other
