At drinks, in the lift or sitting down with a new client: in a few sentences it has to be clear who you are and what you do. In this course you sharpen up your pitch and practise it in a safe setting.

Description

A good pitch is more than a handy sentence you have memorised. It is a story that suits you, stays with the other person and invites a follow-up conversation. In this course you work on exactly that. You build a pitch that sounds natural, even the tenth time you deliver it.

We look at the content of your story, at how you deliver it and at what your body language and voice do to your message. You gain insight into your own strengths and pitfalls, so that you know what you are good at and where you still want to pay some attention.

The day is set up in a practical way. You practise with your own pitch, receive personal feedback from the trainer and the group, and go home with a version you can use straight away.

Topics

  • The structure of a strong pitch: core message, hook and call to action
  • Tailoring your story to your audience and the situation
  • Recognising and making use of qualities and pitfalls
  • Capturing attention in the first few seconds and holding on to it
  • Using body language, voice and posture consciously
  • Dealing with difficult questions, criticism and time pressure
  • Strengthening your self-image and self-confidence
  • The communication process and the effect of non-verbal behaviour
  • Practising, feedback and fine-tuning your own pitch

Result

After this course you have a sharp personal pitch that you can use straight away at networking events, in meetings or in a conversation with a client. You know how to profile yourself convincingly, how to capture and hold attention, and how to stay calm when faced with difficult questions. You present yourself in a way that does justice to who you are.

Target audience

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn to present and profile themselves better. Think of entrepreneurs, professionals and employees who regularly have to say something brief about themselves or their work at networking events, meetings or business gatherings. You are also in the right place if you feel unsure at those moments or have the impression that your story is not getting across.

Teaching method

The course is practical and interactive. You alternate between practising, experimenting with behaviour and techniques, reflection and short pieces of theory. You work with your own pitch and receive personal feedback from the trainer and the other participants. The group is small, so that everyone has enough room to practise and fine-tune.

Prior knowledge

No prior knowledge is required. Your own case or a situation in which you want to pitch helps you to practise in a focused way.

In-company

Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.

Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.

Language

The training is given in Dutch as standard. The trainer has a good command of English. English-language course material can be used. With a minimum enrolment of 3 participants, the training can also be given entirely in English.

    Frequently asked questions

You learn how to build and deliver a sharp personal pitch. You work on the content of your story, on your body language and voice, and on capturing and holding attention. You also gain insight into your qualities and pitfalls and practise with difficult situations, such as critical questions or time pressure.

The course is suitable for anyone who regularly has to introduce themselves briefly: entrepreneurs, professionals, employees and people starting out on the labour market. You are welcome if you want to sharpen your story, increase your self-confidence or make more impact at networking events and in business conversations.

No, no prior knowledge is required. It does help if you think beforehand about a specific situation in which you want to pitch, for example a networking drinks event or a job interview. That way you can practise with your own case during the course.

Yes, afterwards you receive a Learnit certificate of attendance. With it you can demonstrate that you have completed the Pitching: your personal presentation course.

A pitch is short and aimed at one clear goal: making the other person curious or prompting a follow-up conversation. A presentation is usually longer and intended to transfer knowledge or explain a story in full. In a pitch you work with fewer words and every sentence has to hit home.

Yes, the course can also be booked in-company for teams or departments. We then tailor the content and examples to your practice, for example to client conversations, trade fairs or internal presentations. Contact us to discuss the options.

A classic elevator pitch lasts about thirty to sixty seconds. Sometimes you have even less time, for example during a brief round of introductions, and sometimes a little more. In the course you learn to have your story ready in various lengths, so you can adapt your pitch to the situation.

Start with something that grabs attention: a brief observation, a recognisable situation or a question that suits your audience. Avoid standard openings such as 'my name is X and I work at Y'. During the course you practise with different openings and discover which one suits you and your story.

Keep your hands relaxed in front of your body, at hip height. From there you can gesture naturally as you speak. Hands in your pockets, behind your back or held stiffly at your sides make you look tense or closed off. During the course you gain insight into your own body language and practise with posture and gestures.

Nerves are part of it and are often useful: they keep you sharp. What helps is good preparation, breathing from your abdomen and directing your attention to your audience rather than to yourself. In the course you work on self-confidence and are given practical techniques for staying calm, even when all eyes are on you.

A strong pitch contains three elements: who you are, what you do or offer, and what you can mean for the other person. A clear closing is also important: an invitation to a follow-up conversation, a question or a concrete next step. During the course you build your own pitch around these elements.
