Quickly producing clear reports from large databases: that is where you want to get to. Microsoft SQL Report Builder gives you a fast, intuitive design environment with which you turn complex data into clear reports.
Description
SQL Report Builder is a stand-alone component of Microsoft SQL Server (SSRS) and offers you a wide range of visualisations, such as data bars, maps and sparklines. Microsoft has also made a report parts gallery available, so that you can reuse existing parts as building blocks for new reports.
During this course you work at your own pace on practical assignments, with guidance from an experienced trainer. Are you already running into specific issues in your work? Feel free to bring them along to the course. That way you work directly on situations you recognise.
At the end of the course you will be able to independently design, format and export complex reports from large databases.

Result

Teaching method

Basic knowledge of SQL and databases is recommended. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server is a plus, but not a requirement.

What is the difference between Report Builder and Reporting Services?
Reporting Services (SSRS) is the broader platform within Microsoft SQL Server with which you publish and manage reports. Report Builder is the standalone design tool with which you build those reports visually. In the training course you get to know and use both.
What kinds of visualisations can you create with SQL Report Builder?
Report Builder offers a wide choice of visualisations: tables, matrices, charts, data bars, sparklines, indicators and maps. In addition, you can use Microsoft's report parts gallery to reuse existing building blocks for new reports.
Can you export reports from Report Builder to Excel or PDF?
Yes, reports can be exported to various formats, including Excel, PDF, Word and CSV. During the course we cover how to do this and what to watch out for when formatting for different export formats.
How does SQL Report Builder compare to Power BI?
SQL Report Builder is aimed at structured, pixel-perfect reporting (so-called paginated reports) from SQL Server databases. Power BI focuses more on interactive dashboards and data exploration. Both tools have their own strengths and are often used side by side within a single organisation.
