An employment contract is much more than a few sheets of paper. Most of the mutual rights and obligations are in fact laid down in legislation, collective labour agreements and case law. In this course you learn in an accessible way how employment law works around entering into, extending and performing an employment contract. You get to grips with the most important rules and know how to apply them in your own HR practice. This helps you avoid mistakes and know where you stand.
As an HR or personnel officer you play an important role in recruitment, appointment and the ongoing performance of employees. Drawing up and extending employment contracts is often part of that. But practice shows that many rights and obligations are not set out in the contract itself, but in legislation, collective labour agreements and case law. Without a sound basic knowledge of employment law you therefore run risks.
This course gives you a clear and well-structured explanation of the regulations and case law that matter in relation to the employment contract. You will learn when an employment contract exists, even if nothing has been put in writing. You will gain insight into special clauses, the chain rule and flexible contract types. Topics such as the right of instruction, good employee conduct and changes to job roles are also covered. The trainer consistently links theory to recognisable practical examples. You can bring in your own cases and learn from the experiences of other participants. This way you return to your working practice well prepared.
After this course you know how employment law surrounding the employment contract works. You recognise when there is an employment contract, even without a written agreement. You can apply special clauses correctly and know how the chain rule works. Flexible contract forms, the application of collective labour agreements and changes during employment are no longer unfamiliar territory either. You have tools to tackle practical problems and can give your employer or colleagues sound advice on employment law matters.
This course is suitable for HR or personnel staff and for anyone who carries out HR or personnel-related tasks as part of their role. Think of staff who draw up or renew contracts or advise on terms of employment. If you are just starting out in an HR role and want to build a solid grounding in employment law, this is also the right place for you. The course focuses on ordinary employment law and does not cover civil service law.
The course alternates theory with practical examples, so you can place the regulations in a familiar context straight away. There is plenty of scope to ask questions and to discuss cases from your own working situation. You learn both from the trainer and from the experiences of other participants. The group is small, which means plenty of individual attention. You will gain practical tools to tackle employment law issues at work right away.
You do not need any specific prior knowledge for this course. It is useful, however, if you already have some experience in an HR or personnel role or regularly come into contact with employment contracts. That way you can link the theory directly to situations from your own working practice.
The course is given in Dutch as standard. The trainer speaks English. English-language course materials can be used. If at least 3 participants register, the course can also be given entirely in English.
