Coaching is not a trick you simply apply. To guide others well, you have to know yourself. Because your most important instrument as a coach is you. In this Learnit programme you therefore work on both self-examination and practical coaching skills. You learn how to structure coaching conversations, how to deal with resistance and difficult situations and which intervention techniques you can use. Step by step you develop your own style of coaching.

Description

The Coaching Skills programme gives you a complete foundation for working as a coach. You learn what makes coaching successful and how to empower people by letting them find the answer themselves. Encouraging ownership is central to this.

You start with yourself. What are your strengths? Where do your pitfalls and allergies lie? Using models such as the iceberg, Transactional Analysis and core quadrants, you gain a grip on your own behaviour and on your interaction with others. You learn to give and receive feedback and how to recognise projections.

After that, you build a complete coaching programme. You structure conversations, keep the result in mind and deal with emotions. You practise intervention techniques such as respectful confrontation and raising here-and-now issues. Between the blocks you conduct real coaching conversations from your own practice. In this way you actively work on your own style.

Topics

  • Personal leadership: your qualities and pitfalls as a coach
  • Your own frame of reference and the iceberg
  • Transactional Analysis: from drama triangle to winner's triangle
  • Core quadrants and recognising projections
  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • The structure of a coaching programme
  • Structuring and conducting coaching conversations
  • The circle of influence and involvement
  • Intervention techniques and respectful confrontation
  • Making the here and now open to discussion
  • Dealing with emotions and difficult situations
  • Conflict management and projection mechanisms

Result

On completing the programme you will have a clear picture of yourself as a coach. You know your strengths, pitfalls and allergies and how to use or redirect them. You can set up a coaching process independently, structure conversations and keep the intended result in mind. You apply several intervention techniques and know how to deal with resistance, emotions and difficult situations. You have developed your own coaching style and can support others in their growth and development.

Target audience

The Coaching Skills programme is intended for anyone who wants to support others in their development. Think of managers, HR professionals, consultants, teachers, trainers and people who want to work as an internal or external coach. Even if you regularly hold coaching conversations with colleagues or staff in your daily work, this programme offers everything you need. You want to improve your coaching skills, use yourself as a coaching instrument and set up coaching programmes independently.

Teaching method

The programme combines theory with a great deal of practice. You start with a personal intake, so that your learning objectives are clear. During the programme days you work in a small group with assignments, exercises and role plays. Between the blocks you conduct real coaching conversations from your own practice and reflect on your approach. The programme concludes with an online conversation with the trainer. This mix of self-reflection, theory and direct application produces a high learning return and lasting development.

Prior knowledge

No specific prior knowledge is required for this programme. We do expect you to be willing to look at yourself critically and to be open to feedback. You work actively on your own development and apply what you learn directly in your work. Some experience of holding conversations in a work environment is an advantage, but certainly not a requirement.

Comments

Learning by doing. That is central to all our programmes. In a safe training environment we practise realistic situations from your daily practice in small groups (max. 8 participants per course). The more questions and cases you bring in yourself, the more you will get out of the programme. Our trainers combine teaching skills with their practical experience.

In-company

Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.

Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.

Moving forward together

Taking a training course at Learnit means learning together. Together with your experienced trainer, together with your course group or together with your colleagues. And whether you take the training at home, at your office or at one of our training locations, we are always available to help you. To share our knowledge with you in a way that is genuinely useful to you. Getting further together through personal attention and understanding each other well; that is what we believe in.

Apply it directly in your work

Learning theory from a book that you can then hardly use in your work? Not at Learnit! Whichever training you take with us, you can put it to use at your workplace straight away. Because of the unique learning objectives you set together with the trainer at the start of the training. Because of the alternation between theory and (interactive) practical assignments. And by bringing the challenges you face in your daily work along to the training.
