Change is the rule rather than the exception in the workplace. You will learn how, as a manager, you can make room for flexibility and how to bring employees and teams along in continuous change.

Description

Flexibility has been in the top five most sought-after competencies for years. Agile working, new technology and rapidly changing markets call for employees who adapt readily, stay engaged and perform well under pressure. For you as a manager, that raises the question: how do you encourage that adaptability without burning your people out?

On the first day you delve into the science behind flexibility. You examine why old patterns no longer work, what a flexible mindset involves and which characteristics flexible employees share. Day two is about practice: which organisational and technological preconditions do you need, and which management skills help you to embed flexibility in the culture?

At the end of the second day you will have a concrete outline for an action plan that you can put to work straight away in your own team or organisation.

Topics

  • Flexibility as a much sought-after competency and the science behind it
  • The flexible mindset and characteristics of flexible employees
  • How to become and stay flexible as a manager yourself
  • The new way of working and its impact on employees
  • The relationship between organisational structure, culture and flexibility
  • Preconditions for a flexible organisation
  • Competencies and roles of flexible employees
  • Sharpening personal leadership
  • From a reactive to a proactive working attitude
  • Setting goals for flexible working
  • Developing and supporting employees
  • Building flexible teams and strengthening collaboration
  • Techniques for dealing smoothly with change and difficult situations

Result

Afterwards you will know why flexibility is in such demand and what it delivers for employees, teams and the organisation. You will recognise the characteristics of a flexible mindset, you will be able to create the right conditions for a flexible working environment and you will know how to encourage a proactive working attitude. You will be able to sharpen your personal leadership, develop flexible teams and give your employees techniques for dealing with change smoothly. You will leave the course with a concrete outline for an action plan for your own organisation.

Target audience

This course is intended for managers, change managers and transformation managers who want to help their employees and teams develop greater flexibility and resilience. HR professionals and project leaders responsible for change processes will also get a great deal out of it.

Yes, the Flexibility at Work course can be taken both in a classroom setting and in-company. For in-company courses we tailor the content to the specific situation and objectives of your organisation.

Flexibility at work is the ability to adapt smoothly to changing circumstances, new tasks, different colleagues or unexpected situations. It is a combination of mindset, behaviour and skills. Flexible employees remain engaged and effective, even when the context changes.

Because of agile working methods, technological developments and rapidly changing markets, organisations are under constant pressure to move. Flexible employees make that movement possible. They are more resilient, deliver better results and help the organisation stay future-proof. That is why flexibility has been among the top five most sought-after competencies for years.

Flexibility is about adapting to new situations: different work, different roles or new technology. Resilience is about recovery: the ability to regain your balance after a setback or a stressful period. The two reinforce each other. Someone who is resilient can cope with more change and can therefore respond more flexibly.

A proactive working attitude arises when employees are given room to contribute ideas, take ownership and show initiative. As a manager you support this by setting clear goals, giving trust, coaching on responsibility and setting a good example yourself. In the course you learn concrete techniques to set that movement in motion.

A flexible organisation has a suitable structure, a culture that encourages learning and change, and technology that makes remote collaboration possible. Clear frameworks, trust and room to experiment are also essential. During the course you examine which preconditions in your organisation still need strengthening.
