Photoshop is the standard for photo editing and image design. In this basic course you work at your own pace on selections, layers, colour and resolution. You learn to edit images for print and web, and discover the creative power of Photoshop CC.

Description

In this course you get to know Photoshop, the most widely used program for professional photo editing. You learn to work with the basic functions such as selections, layers, masks and channels, and you discover how to correct, retouch and edit photos for print, desktop publishing and the web.

You will gain insight into colour settings and the difference between RGB and CMYK, so that you know which choices to make for web, print or corporate identity. You will also learn to work with the right resolution and DPI settings and get to grips with the various file formats such as jpg, gif, tiff and psd.

You work in an open learning format, tackling practical exercises at your own pace. The depth in which topics are covered is matched to your personal learning objectives, so that the course is fully tailored to your own level and requirements.

Topics

During this course you learn to work with Photoshop CC. The following topics may be covered:

  • The Photoshop CC workspace
  • Making simple photo corrections
  • Working with selections
  • Working with layers
  • Correcting and enhancing digital photos
  • Using masks and channels
  • Working with text and typography
  • Applying vector techniques
  • Creating advanced compositions
  • Creating images for the web
  • Working with consistent colours
  • Colour settings: differences between RGB and CMYK
  • Resolution and DPI settings for print and web
  • File formats such as jpg, gif, tiff and psd
  • Tips and tricks

You match the depth of the topics to your own learning objectives and pace.

Result

After this course you will know how to edit, retouch and optimise images in Photoshop CC for both print and web. You will work fluently with selections, layers, masks and channels, and apply text, typography and vector techniques in your designs.

You will understand the difference between RGB and CMYK and make a deliberate choice of the right colour settings for web, print or a corporate identity. You will know which resolution and DPI suit your purpose and choose the right file format, whether you are saving a source file or delivering a final product.

You will have a solid basis for correcting photos independently, creating compositions and working out your creative ideas in Photoshop.

Target audience

This course is suitable for you if you have little or no experience with Photoshop and want to learn how to edit photos and images for print, desktop publishing or websites. Do you not yet have a specific application in mind, but would you like to get acquainted with the possibilities of Photoshop for professional image editing? Then you have come to the right place too.

Teaching method

You follow this course in the open learning format. This means you spend a full day working on your own learning objectives, at your own pace. An experienced trainer is present throughout the day to guide you, answer questions and help you further where needed.

You work with a clearly structured book containing exercises and exercise files. This way you decide for yourself which topics you cover in detail and which ones you go through more quickly. After the course you keep the book as a reference work.

Prior knowledge

You do not need any prior knowledge of Photoshop. Can you use a computer and do you know how to open and save files? Then you can get started straight away. Experience with photography or design is a bonus, but certainly not a requirement.

Comments

You take this course in our open learning format: you work through the course material at your own pace, with an experienced trainer in the room to guide you and answer your questions. That way you decide which topics get extra attention, and the day matches your learning objectives exactly.

You receive a clear course book with exercises and exercise files, which you keep after the course as a reference work. The depth of the topics is tailored to your own learning objectives.

No, you do not need any prior knowledge for the Photoshop CC Basics course. The course is designed for beginners with little or no experience of Photoshop. Basic computer skills are sufficient. You start with the work area and go on to selections, layers and photo corrections. The course is suitable for both PC and Mac users.

In the Photoshop CC Basics course you learn to work with selections, layers, masks and channels. You cover photo corrections, text and typography, vector techniques and advanced compositions. You will also be shown colour settings (RGB and CMYK), resolution, DPI and file formats such as JPG, GIF, TIFF and PSD. In addition, you prepare images for web and print.

The Photoshop CC Basics course is suitable for anyone with little or no experience in Photoshop who wants to learn to edit photos and images for print, desktop publishing or websites. Even if you have no specific application in mind but want to discover the possibilities of professional image editing, this course is a good fit. Think of aspiring photographers, marketeers, communications staff and anyone with an interest in graphic design.

Yes, on completing the Photoshop CC Basics course you receive a certificate of participation. This certificate confirms that you have mastered the basic skills of Photoshop, such as working with layers, selections, masks and colour settings for both web and print. You also receive a book with exercises and practice files, which you can use later as a reference at work.

With the Photoshop CC Basics course you receive a clear course book with exercises and accompanying exercise files. After the course you can continue to use this book as a reference work. The course is given on PCs, but is also suitable for Mac users. This way you can apply what you have learned directly at your own workplace, regardless of the operating system.

Yes, after this course you can independently carry out the basic edits needed in most day-to-day work. You learn to correct photos, make selections, work with layers and masks, and save files correctly for both print and web. In practical terms, this means that after the course day you can retouch a product photo, cut out a background, apply colour corrections and export an image in the right format (jpg, gif, tiff or psd) with the right resolution and colour mode (RGB for web, CMYK for print). For advanced compositing, complex masks or professional retouching you will need a follow-up course or additional practical experience. The book supplied serves as a reference work for your own projects after the course.

The Photoshop CC Basics course at LearnIt is taught in an open learning format: you spend a day on site working on your own learning objectives, with a trainer on hand to answer questions. That is the key difference with online tutorials, where you get stuck with no one to ask for an explanation. In the open learning format you decide how deeply to go into each topic. If you mainly work for print, you spend more time on CMYK, resolution and file formats such as TIFF and PSD. If your focus is web, you go into RGB, JPG and GIF in more depth. Tutorials are linear and generic; here you get feedback on your own files. You receive a book with exercises that serves as a reference work after the course. Suitable if you want structure and guidance rather than individual YouTube videos.

Photoshop focuses on pixel editing, retouching and composition. You work with layers, masks, channels and selections, allowing you to adjust images down to pixel level. Lightroom is intended for managing and colour-correcting large quantities of photos, not for manipulation or composition. Canva is a template tool for quick social media posts and presentations, without the depth of Photoshop. You choose Photoshop if you want to retouch photos, cut out objects, create image compositions or supply files for print and web in the right resolution, colour mode (RGB or CMYK) and file format (jpg, gif, tiff, psd). In the Photoshop CC Basics course you learn exactly those basic functions: selections, layers, colour settings, resolution and file formats.

The training course is given on Learnit PCs, but in terms of content it is also suitable for Mac users. During the course day you work at a workstation on which Photoshop CC is already installed, so you do not have to bring your own Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. Your own laptop is not required. If you want to continue practising at home or at work afterwards, you will need your own Creative Cloud licence. Photoshop is only available through a subscription from Adobe. You can use the exercise book and exercise files you receive during the course on any computer with Photoshop CC, whether that is a Windows PC or a Mac. Keyboard shortcuts differ slightly between the two operating systems.

The Basics course focuses on the fundamentals: the workspace, selections, layers, photo corrections, masks, text, colour settings (RGB vs CMYK), resolution and file formats (JPG, GIF, TIFF, PSD). You learn to edit images for print, desktop publishing and web. A follow-up course builds on that foundation and goes into complex composition techniques, advanced retouching and more efficient workflows in greater depth. You are ready for a follow-up course if you can work independently with layers and masks, understand the difference between RGB and CMYK, and choose files deliberately in terms of resolution and format. If you have little or no experience with Photoshop, start with Basics. The course is taught in an open learning format, so that the depth of each topic matches your pace and learning objectives.

YouTube tutorials teach you isolated tricks: removing a background, applying a filter, placing a logo. The Photoshop CC Basics course at LearnIt builds a coherent foundation. You learn how selections, layers, masks and channels work together, so that you can work out for yourself which technique suits which problem. You also cover the technical prerequisites that tutorials often leave out: the difference between RGB and CMYK, the right resolution for print versus web, and when to choose JPG, TIFF, PSD or GIF. The delivery format is open learning: you work through exercises at your own pace, with an experienced trainer looking over your shoulder and answering your questions. You go home with a reference work and practice files, not a browser full of tabs with unrelated videos.
