Hundreds of photos on your phone or camera, and no idea where to start? With Photoshop Elements you can edit, manage and share your images in no time. In this open learning format you work at your own pace towards a result you can be proud of.

Description

In this course you work with Photoshop Elements, an accessible program for editing and managing digital photos. You gain an insight into the complete workflow: from importing and organising your photo files to editing, saving and publishing them.

You will work on topics such as cropping, retouching, colour corrections, working with layers and applying special effects. You will also learn how to use quick fixes to edit large numbers of photos in a short time. Organising your collection is covered as well, with keywords, face tagging and smart search functions.

Finally, you will look at the ways in which you share your photos: printing in true-to-life colours, exporting, web galleries, slideshows and photo mail. The course is taught on a PC and is also suitable for Mac users. You will receive a course book with exercises and practice files, which you can use afterwards as a reference work.

Result

After this course you will know how to edit and manage digital photos with Photoshop Elements. You can import, scan, crop and retouch photos. You work with layers, apply colour corrections and add special effects. You also organise your photo collection using keywords and face tagging, and share your work through prints, web galleries, slideshows or photo mail. In addition, you will know the quick fixes that let you edit large numbers of photos rapidly.

Target audience

This course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn how to manage and edit digital photos efficiently. You are already comfortable with Windows or macOS, but are still a beginner when it comes to photo editing. No prior knowledge of Photoshop Elements is required.

Teaching method

You take this course in our open learning format: one course day on which you work with Photoshop Elements independently, at your own pace. An experienced trainer sits beside you and helps you along as soon as you get stuck or have a question.

You work with a clear, well-structured book and practice files, so that you combine theory and practice straight away. What you learn that day you apply immediately to real photo assignments. You take the book home with you as a reference work.

Prior knowledge

You can find your way around Windows and know how to open, save and retrieve files. No further prior knowledge is required. Experience with photo editing is not necessary, as you start with the basics and build up step by step.

Comments

You follow this course in our open learning format: you work through the assignments independently at your own pace, with an experienced trainer in the room to help you as soon as you have a question. That way you decide for yourself which topics to spend extra time on and which ones to work through more quickly.

Course format

This training is offered on the basis of our Open Learning teaching method. This means that you work independently, with active guidance from our trainer, to master the material. That way you can achieve your learning objectives at your own pace, without being held back by fellow participants working faster or slower. The trainer makes sure that you stay on schedule and meet your learning objectives. This form of learning leaves room for a tailored approach. You have the opportunity to bring in examples from your own practice and IT environment, so that your learning is even more specific. more...

In-company

Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.

Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.

Frequently asked questions

The Photoshop Elements course takes two days and is delivered in an open learning format. You learn to import, crop, retouch and correct digital photos, to work with layers and to apply special effects. Management is also covered: organising, tagging, exporting, printing and sharing photos via web galleries or slide shows. Afterwards, you can edit large quantities of photos independently using handy quick fixes.

For the Photoshop Elements course you do not need any experience with photo editing. It is helpful, however, if you can work confidently in Windows, such as saving files, creating folders and opening programs. The course is set up for beginners in digital photo editing. You learn step by step how to import, crop, retouch and export, supported by a reference work with practice files.

With the Photoshop Elements course you receive a clearly structured course book with exercises and practice files. You use this book during the training course and it remains a handy reference work afterwards. The course is taught on PCs, but is also suitable for Mac users. This way you can apply what you have learned directly on your own device and your own photos.

Yes, the Photoshop Elements course is suitable for both Windows and Mac users. The course is taught on PCs, but the techniques and functions covered work identically on both systems. As an Apple user you can therefore take part without any problems and apply everything you learn directly on your own Mac at home or in the office.

Yes, the Photoshop Elements course is offered in the open learning format and takes one day. You work through the material at your own pace, with an experienced trainer on hand for explanations and questions. This delivery format is ideal if you want to learn flexibly and get targeted answers about your own working situation. You can register individually, without having to wait for a group.

After the Photoshop Elements course you will independently manage and edit large volumes of digital photos. You import and organise your collection using keywords and face tagging, carry out colour corrections and retouching, work with layers and selections, and apply quick fixes for fast results. You also print in true-to-life colours or share your work via web galleries, slideshows and photo mail.

Photoshop Elements is the consumer version of Adobe Photoshop, aimed at photo editing and photo management. It contains the most commonly used Photoshop features, such as working with layers, retouching, colour corrections and selecting, but lacks professional options such as CMYK output, advanced masks and extensive automation possibilities. For editing and organising your own photo collection, Elements is usually more than sufficient. The full version of Photoshop is intended for designers and professional retouchers. During this course you will work in Photoshop Elements and learn both manual techniques and the quick fixes that allow you to edit large numbers of photos in a short time. If you opt for the open learning format, you work at your own pace under the guidance of an experienced trainer. If you want to move on to Photoshop itself later, Elements is a logical stepping stone.

Photoshop Elements is made for hobbyists and home users who want more than automatic corrections, but do not need a subscription to the full Adobe Creative Cloud. You pay for the software once and get both an Organizer (for managing large photo archives with keywords and face recognition) and an Editor (for editing in layers, retouching and colour corrections). Free tools such as Google Photos or the Photos app are fine for storage and quick filters, but they offer no real layer-based editing, no advanced selections and no targeted retouching tools. Choose Elements if you want to combine photos, remove objects, or archive large quantities of holiday and family photos in a structured way. For professional print work or complex graphic design, the full version of Photoshop remains the more logical choice.

The main difference lies in guidance and pace. With a YouTube tutorial or an online video course you watch passively and have to work out for yourself why something does not work with your photos. In the open learning format at Learnit you work through the course material independently, but an experienced trainer sits beside you and looks on the moment you get stuck. You work at your own pace on subjects such as retouching, working in layers, colour correction and quick fixes. You also receive a book with exercises and practice files, which serves as a reference work afterwards. Choose video tutorials if you mainly want to pick up individual tricks. Choose this course if you want to build up a complete working method in a short time, from importing to printing and publishing.

The Photoshop Elements course builds up in a logical order. You start with the basics: importing photos from your camera or memory card, scanning old material, and organising your collection with keywords and face tagging. You then learn the most common corrections: cropping, straightening, removing red eye and adjusting exposure using the quick fixes. Only once those basics are in place do you move on to more advanced techniques such as working in layers, selecting and isolating objects, retouching and colour correction. The course concludes with output: printing in true-to-life colours, web galleries, slideshows and photo mail. This order means that after day one you can already improve photos in concrete ways, and on day two you go deeper with selections, layers and effects.

In the open learning format you work independently through the coursebook and the practice files, at your own pace, with an experienced trainer in the same room who answers your questions straight away. So you decide for yourself which topics you want to cover thoroughly and which you work through more quickly. This differs from a classroom course in three respects: there is no fixed plenary programme, you are not tied to the pace of the group, and you can skip topics you already master. In practical terms this means that an experienced Windows user who only wants to practise retouching and layers can focus entirely on that. Someone completely new to photo editing works through the chapters in order. You take the coursebook home as a reference work, so you can carry on practising at home.

At the start you receive a book with exercises and accompanying practice files, so you can try out every technique straight away in a controlled setting. You can also bring your own photos on a USB stick or via the cloud. In this open learning format that is a real advantage: you work independently at your own pace and can ask the trainer specific questions about your own material. Think of a holiday series you want to crop, portrait photos you want to retouch or a collection you want to tag with keywords and face tagging. This way you apply the techniques from the coursebook directly to your own archive. You take the reference work home with you, so you can carry on with your own collection after the course.
