Readers on a screen are impatient. They want a quick answer, a clear structure and something to do. In this course you will learn how to write texts for intranet and internet so that they stick and prompt action.
Writing for a screen is something other than writing for print. Your reader scans, clicks through and drops out as soon as it becomes too long or too vague. That is why in this course you work on texts that make clear at a glance what the subject is, what the visitor gains from it and what the next step is.
You start with your organisation, your product and your audience. Which words and images suit them? Which information belongs on the first page and what sits behind a click? You then work on style: writing in an appealing, persuasive and activating way. You get to grips with concepts such as tone of voice, scannable writing, storytelling and SEO.
The course is practically oriented. You practise with your own texts, receive feedback from the trainer and the other participants, and go home with concrete improvements.
After this course you will write web texts that immediately make clear what they are about. You portion your message, structure it so it can be scanned and formulate concisely. You know how to hold your reader's attention, choose a suitable tone of voice and encourage your visitor to take a follow-up action. You will have practised with your own texts and go home with concrete improvements that you can implement straight away.
This course is intended for anyone who writes texts for a screen as part of their work: news items, product information, public information, blogs, web pages or advertisements. Both novice writers and experienced colleagues making the move from paper to screen are welcome. The course focuses on Dutch, but most tips are also useful if you write in English, German or French.
The course is practice-oriented. You work with your own organisation, products and web texts as a starting point. Short explanations alternate with writing assignments, feedback from the trainer and exchanges with the other participants. This way you apply new knowledge straight away and take improved texts back to your work.
No specific prior knowledge is required. It helps if you already write texts in your work or will soon be writing for intranet or internet.
Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.
Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.
The training is given in Dutch as standard. The trainer has a good command of English. English-language course material can be used. With a minimum enrolment of 3 participants, the training can also be given entirely in English.
When would you like to start?

Learning theory from a book that you can then hardly use in your work? Not at Learnit! Whichever training you take with us, you can put it to use at your workplace straight away. Because of the unique learning objectives you set together with the trainer at the start of the training. Because of the alternation between theory and (interactive) practical assignments. And by bringing the challenges you face in your daily work along to the training.
No suitable start date? Send us a date request. Then we will look together at how we can still meet your training needs.

Readers on a screen are more impatient and scan more quickly. They want an immediate answer and drop out when texts are long or unclear. For the screen you break your message down into smaller parts, use more headings and subheadings, and make sure the most important information is visible straight away.
Writing so a text can be scanned means building it up in such a way that a reader can pick up the core message without reading every word. You use telling headings, short paragraphs, bullet lists and key words in bold. That way the reader sees at a glance what it is about and can choose which parts to read further.
A tone of voice is the recognisable way in which your organisation writes. Think of word choice, rhythm and degree of formality. Online this is extra important, because you have no body language or voice to support your message. A consistent tone of voice makes your organisation recognisable and builds trust with your visitor.
A good web text starts with the core message, uses short sentences and paragraphs, and has clear headings that reveal the content. You write from the reader's perspective: what is in it for them and what do they need to know or do? A clear structure, active verbs and a concrete next step make all the difference.
You activate a visitor by making clear what the next step is and making that step as easy as possible. Use active verbs, place a concrete call to action in a logical spot and remove doubts with answers to frequently asked questions. The less effort it takes to click through, the greater the chance that it happens.
