Do you want to get more out of Access than just basic databases and simple queries? In this follow-up course you take the step towards real development work. You will learn how to set up relationships between tables intelligently, build complex forms, refine reports and automate tasks with macros and VBA. You will also see how Access works together with other Office programmes and with a SQL server. By the end of the course you will have a database that does exactly what you want.

Description

The Access Advanced course is intended for anyone who has mastered the basics of Access and wants to take the next step. You go deeper into designing databases with relationships, you build advanced forms with combo boxes, option buttons and tab controls, and you learn how to use expressions to display data intelligently.

A large part of the course is about automation. You learn to create, test and run macros, you work with macro groups and add conditions. After that you get to know VBA, so you gain even more control over your database. Security is also covered: you set passwords, define users and assign rights.

Finally, you discover how to make Access work together with Excel, Word and Outlook and how to exchange data with an SQL server. You may bring practical examples from your own work, so that the exercises match what you do on a daily basis.

Topics

  • Advanced forms and reports
  • List boxes, option buttons and tab controls
  • Tab order and expressions
  • Creating, testing and running macros
  • Adding macro groups and conditions
  • Creating and customising toolbars
  • Security with passwords and user definitions
  • Assigning permissions
  • Introduction to VBA
  • Exchanging data with Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Exchanging data with SQL Server

Result

After this course you will build complex forms and reports in Access and set up relationships between tables in a considered way. You automate recurring tasks with macros and you have a first grounding in VBA. You secure your database with passwords and user rights and you know how to exchange data with Excel, Word, Outlook and a SQL Server. This allows you to use Access as a powerful and flexible tool in your work.

Target audience

The course is intended for anyone who already works with Access and wants to get more out of the programme. Think of employees who manage or develop databases themselves, administrative professionals who want to link data from different sources, and analysts who want to refine reports and forms. If you want to use Access to automate processes in your department, you are also in the right place.

Teaching method

The course is classroom-based and highly practical. You work in small groups, so the trainer has time for your questions and examples. At the start, the trainer discusses your starting level and learning objectives, so that the focus is on what matters to you. You alternate short explanations with plenty of exercises at the computer. You are welcome to bring your own practical examples, so that you can apply what you learn directly to your own work.

Prior knowledge

For this course you need prior knowledge at the level of Access Basics. You already work with tables, simple queries, forms and reports. Experience with other Office programmes such as Excel is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Comments

This training course can be taken in various versions. Please indicate whether you use Access 2010, 2013 or 2016.

In-company

Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.

Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.

  • “A very complete course, and in my case with a highly skilled trainer. Prior knowledge of Access is definitely required, otherwise the course would become too complicated. A particular plus is the option to bring your own practical examples on a USB stick or similar, so you can work on them or go through specific issues with the trainer. I found the open learning format pleasant, because you can work at your own pace and have the freedom to skip parts (because you already know how to apply something) or choose your own order for the material to be covered.”
