What is the teaching method of the Leadership Basics course?

The Leadership Basics course is taught in a classroom setting in a small group of up to 10 participants. You start with an intake in which you set your own learning objectives. During the course you work practically and experientially: you practise with situations from your own working environment, receive immediate feedback and go home with a personal action plan and concrete tools.

Can I extend the Leadership Basics course with advanced days?

Yes, the Leadership Basics course can be extended with in-depth days. You can opt for a variant with Situational Leadership, a variant with Coaching Leadership, or the Leadership Comprehensive course, which includes all the components. This way you build your learning path in the direction that suits your role and development.

How does this course differ from an online course or a book about leadership?

A book or online course gives you knowledge about leadership, but no practice with your own day-to-day situations. In the Leadership Basics course you work in a classroom setting in a group of no more than 10 participants. You practise with real conversations from your work: addressing behaviour, giving feedback, dealing with resistance. You receive direct feedback from the trainer and your fellow participants. Beforehand, you set your own learning objectives in an intake. You go home with a personal action plan, not just with theory. Self-study works if you mainly want to acquire knowledge. Classroom training works better if you want to change behaviour, because behaviour changes through practice and being held up a mirror, not through reading.

How do I know whether Leadership Basics is enough, or whether I should go straight for Leadership Extended?

Leadership Basics focuses on the fundamentals: your role and positioning, communication, managing behaviour, feedback, motivating and delegating. That is enough if you have just started managing or want to sharpen up your foundation. Leadership Extended adds two advanced modules: Situational Leadership and Coaching Leadership. Those modules are relevant if you already manage for results and want to learn to switch between styles for each member of staff, or if you want to work more from a coaching role. In doubt? Start with Leadership Basics. You can still take individual advanced days later. Anyone who knows in advance that coaching and style flexibility are their biggest challenge will save time by opting for Leadership Extended straight away.
