Teaching method

You take this course in our open learning format. This means that you spend a day working with online course material, at your own pace and with your own learning objectives in mind. An experienced trainer is present all day to guide you, answer questions and think along about your situation.

You decide yourself which topics receive extra attention. Do you mainly want to practise calendar management, or rather organising your mailbox? The trainer helps you put the focus where you need it. That way you get the most out of the day.

Comments

You follow this course in an open learning format: you work independently on assignments, at your own pace, with a trainer who gives you personal guidance at the moments you need it. This way you determine the pace and focus of your learning day yourself.

Course format

This training is offered on the basis of our Open Learning teaching method. This means that you work independently, with active guidance from our trainer, to master the material. That way you can achieve your learning objectives at your own pace, without being held back by fellow participants working faster or slower. The trainer makes sure that you stay on schedule and meet your learning objectives. This form of learning leaves room for a tailored approach. You have the opportunity to bring in examples from your own practice and IT environment, so that your learning is even more specific. more...

In-company

Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.

Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.

Frequently asked questions

The Outlook Basics course lasts one day and is delivered in an open learning format. You learn to send email, organise your mailbox, set up a signature and an out-of-office message, manage contacts, use your calendar, schedule appointments and meetings, create tasks and keep notes. Optionally, you also receive an explanation of Outlook in combination with Microsoft 365 Copilot.

The Outlook Basics course is suitable for anyone who works with Outlook daily or regularly and wants to master the basic functions. Think of secretaries, management assistants, freelancers and office staff. No prior knowledge of Outlook is required; basic knowledge of Windows is enough. Also useful if you want to learn to work with Outlook in combination with Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Yes, Copilot in Outlook is an optional part of the Outlook Basics course. You indicate when booking whether you would like to cover this. The trainer will then show you how to use Microsoft 365 Copilot to summarise emails, generate draft replies and work through your inbox more quickly. A Copilot licence from your employer is required for this.

For the Outlook Basics course you don't need any specific prior knowledge. You can join if you have basic experience with Windows and can work with a mouse and keyboard. The course is aimed at beginner users of Outlook. At the start, the trainer discusses your entry level and learning objectives, so that the focus is on topics that are relevant to you.

You follow the Outlook Basics course in the version you use at work yourself. When you register, you indicate which version that is. The planners make sure that your course materials and exercises match your software version. That way you train directly in the environment you use every day and can apply what you have learnt straight away.

Yes, on completion of the Outlook Basics course you receive a certificate of participation from Learnit. This certificate confirms that you have successfully followed the course and mastered the basic skills of Outlook, such as email management, calendar, contacts and tasks. You can add the certificate to your CV or LinkedIn profile to demonstrate your skills to employers.

With self-study you watch individual videos about features you happen to come across. On the Outlook Basics course you spend a day working through a coherent programme under the guidance of a trainer: mail, calendar, contacts, tasks and notes. At the start of the day the trainer gauges your starting level and tailors the exercises accordingly. You get immediate answers to questions that relate specifically to your situation, for example about organising a full mailbox or setting up a recurring meeting. You practise in your own version of Outlook, because when you book you indicate which version you use. Choose the course if you want to build a workable foundation in a day. Choose self-study if you want to look up individual features without guidance.

The Outlook Basics course is taught in the open learning format, a delivery format that differs from classroom training. You work independently at a computer on practical assignments at your own level and at your own pace. An experienced trainer is present all day to answer questions and provide explanations at the moment you run into something. At the start you discuss your starting level together and what you want to learn, so that you can work purposefully on topics such as mail, calendar, contacts and tasks. This format is suitable if you prefer learning by doing rather than by listening. You can skip parts you already know and spend extra time on what you find difficult. The course lasts a full training day.

The open learning format is a good choice if you want to set your own pace and focus on the parts that are relevant to you. You work independently with course material in a classroom where a trainer is present to answer questions. At the start, the trainer discusses your starting level and learning objectives with you, so that you can work purposefully on, for example, calendar management only or email rules instead. A classic group course follows a fixed programme at a fixed pace and is suitable if you prefer classroom learning. Choose the open learning format if you already have some basic knowledge, want to fill specific gaps, or need a different pace from the average group. The course lasts one day and optionally also covers Outlook with Copilot.

Straight after the course day you can apply the techniques you have learnt. The open learning set-up is practice-oriented: you practise with your own mailbox, calendar and tasks, so that you recognise what you have learnt at your workplace immediately. Concretely, after one day you go home with skills such as setting up folders and rules for your inbox, setting a signature and an out-of-office message, scheduling meetings via the calendar, and managing contacts and tasks. The main gain is in time saved when processing e-mail. If you want to get the most out of Outlook in combination with AI, you can optionally also work with Copilot for Outlook during the course day. To embed it in practice: the more often you consciously apply the techniques in the first working weeks, the sooner they become routine.

In the open learning format you work for a full course day in a classroom on your own course material, with a trainer physically present for questions and tailored explanations. An online course or e-learning does not offer that direct contact. The difference comes down to three things. You work through the material at your own pace, so you skip the parts you find easy and get extra guidance on the parts you find difficult. The trainer looks at your version of Outlook with you, so you learn directly in the environment you actually work in. You can raise your own practical questions, for example about your own mailbox structure or calendar settings. Optionally, you can also cover Outlook with Microsoft 365 Copilot. Suitable if you are stuck on a few specific topics and do not want to attend a full classroom day.

Microsoft 365 Copilot is the AI assistant that helps in Outlook with summarising long email threads, drafting reply suggestions and retrieving information from earlier messages. In the Outlook Basics course we cover Copilot optionally. That means: if you have a Microsoft 365 licence with Copilot through your employer, you can look at how to use Copilot for your own mail flow together with the trainer during the open learning format day. Concrete topics we then practise: having an email thread summarised, having a draft reply generated and adjusting the tone, and asking Copilot to extract action points from an email. If you don't have a Copilot licence, we skip this part and focus the day entirely on the Outlook basics. So you decide for yourself whether this element is relevant.
