View the Influencing Skills and Persuasiveness course All Conversation Techniques courses →You have a good proposal, you have explained it three times, and the other person does not budge. Or worse: he nods along pleasantly and then does exactly what he always did. At that point it is rarely down to your arguments. It is down to the driver you are appealing to. Persuasiveness is not a matter of talking louder or of a trick that always works; it is knowing which button to press with this person, at this moment.
This free online course is the starter for our full Influencing skills and powers of persuasion. In four chapters you learn the difference between push energy and pull energy and when to switch from one to the other, you get to know the four forces with which people move each other, you consciously choose a style that matches where the other person is stuck, and you recognise resistance before it hardens. Each chapter ends with a short knowledge check, so you immediately notice whether it is sticking.
The full course goes on to cover the playing field of influencing and the line with manipulation, the three communication channels, speaking clearly and directly, negotiating towards win-win, setting boundaries and giving feedback, speaking inspiringly, framing and priming, and your personal action plan. Would you like to practise that with someone who does not give way, with your own situation on the table? Then take a look at the Influencing Skills and Persuasiveness course.

IntroductionHow this free course is structured and what you learn in the four chapters.
1.-
Push energy and pull energyThe two movements with which you steer a conversation, how to recognise them in language and posture, and when to switch from one to the other.
2.-
The four forces of influenceWanting, thinking, feeling and believing: insisting, convincing, exploring and inspiring, plus the eleventh option of deliberate silence.
3.-
Choosing your style and building trustWhy arguments alone will not shift an attitude, where the other person's blockage lies, and the four behaviours that carry trust.
4.-
Recognising and turning around resistanceOpen and hidden resistance, the four sources underneath it and the four-step plan that turns opposition into cooperation.
5.-
The playing field of influencingWhy you exert influence, where the line lies between influencing and manipulating, and how to map out the playing field of a situation.
6.-
Communication as a foundationThe three communication channels, the four laws of communication and the difference between what you send and what arrives.
7.-
Communicating clearly and directlyThe four pitfalls of vague language, saying I when you mean yourself, and being clear without being blunt.
8.-
Negotiating towards win-winWhen negotiating makes sense, moving from positions to interests, and steering towards an outcome that leaves both parties better off.
9.-
Setting boundaries and giving feedbackSetting a boundary assertively, feedback that lands without causing damage, and protecting the relationship while saying something difficult.
10.-
Speaking inspiringly and motivatingComing across as congruent, speaking in images, and getting groups and individuals moving with a story.
11.-
Framing and primingThe same fact in a different frame, preparing the ground before you put your question, and using subtle techniques with respect.
12.-
Reflection and your personal action planLooking back in order to learn, mapping out your own influencing style and an action plan that you are still carrying out the following week.
That is the difference with a pdf: there is someone standing in front of the class who answers your questions and thinks along with your own situation.

I found the 'Interview Techniques' course to be good. Nothing to fault. It was also good that Job called beforehand for a short preliminary discussion. You don't see that very often. A very worthwhile course. It also had a strong element of repetition. Plenty of variety, including between theory and practice. Learned a lot, and applied it straight away during the course. And I think these learnings will also help me further when conducting interviews.
We took the Outlook, Teams and OneNote course with Roy Nieuwenhuijzen. Good content, and a few days before the course he got in touch with me (coordinator of the course, head of the secretariat). Pleasant that you can fill in the day itself as needed. The booklet for reference is rather dated, but apparently there is little up-to-date material to be found.
In May 2024 I took the WordPress course. As an IT enthusiast with broad but not necessarily deep knowledge, I wanted to know more about WordPress. How do you install everything and how do you start building a website. This course is extremely well suited to that. From the outset you learn in 3 days how to start a website and what to look out for. I now have a solid basis for getting to work with WordPress and I know my way around the various options. The course is recommended for anyone who wants to learn in three days what WordPress can do and how to apply it.
