Good advice stands or falls on how you deliver it. In this course you develop a personal advisory style, learn to deal with resistance and work through the entire advisory process. From the first request for advice to the closing conversation.
The way you deliver advice largely determines whether it is understood, accepted and acted upon. In this Advisory Skills course you develop a personal advisory style that suits both you and your client.
You work through the complete advisory process, from the first request for advice to the closing conversation. You work on conversation skills such as listening, summarising and asking follow-up questions, you learn to recognise and handle resistance, and you practise advising persuasively and in a structured way. You also gain insight into different advisory styles and roles, so that you can switch flexibly according to the client and the situation.
The course is practically oriented: you experiment with new techniques in a safe environment and decide for yourself which insights you incorporate into your daily work. Afterwards you will be able to give advice in a structured and convincing way.
During this course you work on the skills you need to give advice in a structured and convincing way. The following topics are covered:
After this course you present advice in a structured and convincing way. You are aware of your role and position in the advisory process and know when you are acting as an adviser, an expert or a service provider. In every phase of the advisory process you act purposefully, from the initial request to the closing meeting.
You have developed a personal advisory style that suits who you are. You recognise your strengths and pitfalls, deal with resistance and adapt your approach to the type of client. You know how to clearly manage expectations, both your own and those of the client, so that together you reach a result that both parties support.
This course suits you if you want to develop a personal advisory style. You may recognise yourself in one or more of these points:
you want to strengthen your persuasiveness, you want to communicate more effectively and increase your influence, you want to extend your reach and make the most of your network, you want to learn how to deal with resistance during the advisory process.
This list is of course not exhaustive, as everyone is different. What would you like to focus on in the area of advising?
During this course you work actively on your advisory skills. Before the course you have an intake with your trainer, in which you discuss your personal learning objectives. On that basis the trainer determines the final programme.
We believe in doing and experiencing. You practise with real-life situations, exchange experiences with other participants and receive direct feedback from an experienced trainer. With a maximum group size of eight participants, there is plenty of room for personal attention and a safe atmosphere in which to experiment with new techniques.
You decide for yourself which techniques and insights you integrate into your day-to-day advisory practice, so that you develop an advisory style that really suits you.
No specific prior knowledge is required for this course. It is useful, however, if you already advise others in your work or are about to start doing so, so that you can apply what you learn directly to situations from your own practice.
Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.
Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.
The training is given in Dutch as standard. The trainer has a good command of English. English-language course material can be used. With a minimum enrolment of 3 participants, the training can also be given entirely in English.
When would you like to start?
At Learnit you will always find a course that takes you further. From (technical) IT skills to communication or personal leadership. You can also choose the training format that suits you best: a classroom course, a tailor-made course at your own office, an online course or an e-learning. We have the right course and the right format for everyone. Because learning in the way that suits you best delivers the best results.
Personal attention and a pleasant atmosphere. Whether you take a course with us, at your office or on your own PC, we make sure you feel at home enough to push your boundaries.
New opportunities arise when you get moving. Stay sharp. Keep taking new steps. We encourage you to take the plunge and really go for it.
Discover something new. Build on your strengths. And choose your own path. We help you grow with training courses and learning formats that genuinely suit you.
We always think in terms of possibilities and win-win. And every day we work on new solutions for tomorrow. By offering training courses that leave you well prepared for the future.
We don't make empty promises. What we do offer is quality, knowledge and experience. A broad range of courses, made possible by our inspired staff and trainers.
We listen to what matters to you. To what you need. Because that is where our solution, our tailored approach, begins. Understanding each other properly and communicating clearly: that is what we believe in.
Taking a training course at Learnit means learning together. Together with your experienced trainer, together with your course group or together with your colleagues. And whether you take the training at home, at your office or at one of our training locations, we are always available to help you. To share our knowledge with you in a way that is genuinely useful to you. Getting further together through personal attention and understanding each other well; that is what we believe in.
Learning theory from a book that you can then hardly use in your work? Not at Learnit! Whichever training you take with us, you can put it to use at your workplace straight away. Because of the unique learning objectives you set together with the trainer at the start of the training. Because of the alternation between theory and (interactive) practical assignments. And by bringing the challenges you face in your daily work along to the training.
No suitable start date? Send us a date request. Then we will look together at how we can still meet your training needs.

N. Verwaaij, Waterschap Rijn en IJssel - Advisory Skills
"I would recommend this course! As an internal adviser, it can sometimes be difficult to give good advice within an organisation. In this course you get plenty of tips and pointers to ensure that the person being advised takes your advice, and you as an expert, seriously: applying LSD effectively, identifying where resistance lies and removing it, creating support for your advice, looking for common interests, not judging too soon, searching for creative solutions, moving along, moving in step, moving away if necessary and certainly not pushing back too quickly, applying influencing techniques and, above all, you learn that you must always stand behind your own advice! Very valuable things to put in your 'rucksack' as an adviser. The course has a practical set-up (lots of role-play), so it really sticks."
T. Uffing, Waterschap Rijn en IJssel - Advisory Skills
“You become very aware of your own advisory style and which parts of it could do with improvement.”
M. van Aalst - Westfriesland Acedemie- Advisory skills

"My objective was to take a critical look at how my advisory meetings were going and to look for improvements. I certainly achieved that with this course. By going through the theory and practising real-life situations, I gained a better understanding. These three days have been a good investment for more success in the rest of my career!"
L. Snaphaan, Gira Giersiepen GmbH - Advisory Skills

What was covered is certainly usable in practice. The preliminary inventory made me feel taken seriously straight away. The trainer managed to create a safe atmosphere within a short space of time and had an eye for both the individual and the group.”

T. Pepping, Province of Drenthe - Advisory Skills
"Pleasantly practical course, tailored to your wishes and learning needs."
Mirelle Cazemier, CMO Flevoland- Advisory Skills
“A surprising course. A ‘toolbox’ of skills for advising efficiently. As a technical person, I experience this as ‘a different world’. Certainly useful to get to know this more psychological side of advising as well. From now on, both halves of my brain can get to work. Thank you!”
M.J. de Bruijn, Schouten & Nelissen Nederland B.V. - Advisory Skills
“A great many topics were covered in a short space of time in a pleasant and professional manner; I learned a lot.”
R.J. Hopster, IND - Advisory Skills
"It was a good set-up. Lots of different information, all of it connected to the theme of advising. I was surprised to discover that communication plays such a large role, and that this can also be made objective by using models. The variety of course materials was pleasant."
M. de Bruijn, Academisch Medisch Centrum (AMC) - Advisory Skills
"Anna Maria is a very enthousiastic trainer, with a very large amount of knowledge on the topic we discussed. She was great at transferring this knowledge, and I feel I learned a lot of things that I can directly apply in my day to day work."
- Advisory Skills
“I really learned an enormous amount during this course, and I can apply what I learned both at work and in my social life. The trainer, Mieke, is very good at what she does. She clearly has many years of experience and has a great deal of positive energy, which made it not only an instructive course but also a thoroughly enjoyable one. The role plays, often based on real situations at my work, were also extremely instructive.”
Deborah Winkel, QM intelligence B.V. - Advisory Skills
“A good mix of theory and practice through the various role plays. The trainer adds a personal touch by revisiting examples mentioned by participants on days 1 and 2 of the course again a month later on day 3.”
Anonymous- Advisory skills
"Good course with plenty of applicable and valuable tips. It also gives you a lot of insight into yourself in an advisory role. The broad range of subjects at Learnit Training appeals to me. The various formats of information, classroom-based as well as webinars, are very pleasant too. The solution offered in my situation, as I was unable to attend one course day, was arranged absolutely perfectly."
M. Vianen, Ministerie van Defensie - Advisory Skills
“It is an interesting, interactive course that gives you insight into, among other things, how your iceberg (with your standards, values, character, etc.) influences the way you give advice. You also practise different ways of delivering a message and how to encourage others to make progress together during an advisory process.”
M. Timmers, CQ Procesmanagement- Advisory Skills
“If you are looking for the motives of your 'client' who is to receive advice from you, then take this course. By asking the right questions and listening carefully to the answers, you discover where the key is hidden that gives you access to your client. You also gain insight into your own behaviour and thoughts, which influence your client and through which your advice is negatively (or indeed positively) affected. Highly recommended!”
J. Testroote, DSV- Advisory Skills
“I followed the course at Learnit with great enthusiasm for two days and finished them feeling very satisfied. We received an enormous amount of useful advice and my learning objectives were met. Now the challenge is to apply all the good tips in practice. Leah is an enthusiastic and skilled trainer. I can wholeheartedly recommend Learnit and Leah.”
L. Keller, Bloem en Lemstra Architecten - Advisory Skills
“During the tailored Advisory Skills course I gained more confidence in my role as an adviser, precisely because of the amount of practice with real-life situations and reflection through feedback and video. There was a good balance between theory and practice. Thanks to the pleasant, open atmosphere the trainer created early on, we were able as a group to go into the material and our own reflection in greater depth quickly.”
Annick van der Hoeven, CMO Flevoland - Advisory Skills
