Do you want to get everything out of Excel? In this open learning day you will work with pivot tables, macros, What-If analyses and advanced functions. Optionally, you can also focus on Excel with Copilot. You work at your own pace, with expert guidance.

Description

In the Excel Expert course you will delve into the most advanced possibilities of Excel and learn how to use these functions efficiently in your daily work. Among other things, you will work with pivot tables, formulas and functions, and you will receive extensive explanation of topics such as Goal Seek, Data Table, Solver and Scenarios. You will also learn to create 'What-If' analyses and get to work with macros and the exchange of data with other programs such as Word and Access.

The course combines the content of the Excel Pivot Tables, Formulas and Functions course and the Excel Macros and Working with Other Programs course. Optionally, the course also covers the use of Microsoft 365 Copilot in Excel, so that you discover how this AI assistant helps you with analyses and reports.

The course is offered in the open learning format and lasts one day. You work in a small group under the guidance of an experienced trainer, who determines together with you which topics you focus on. You can bring your own practical examples and indicate which version of Excel you work with, so that the course material matches it.

Result

After completing this course you will be able to structure complex data in Excel and analyse it using advanced functions, pivot tables and what-if analyses. You work efficiently with macros, link Excel to other programs and present your results clearly. Optionally, you use Copilot to gain insights from your data more quickly.

Target audience

This course is intended for experienced Excel users who want to get the most out of Excel. You already work regularly with formulas, functions and large amounts of data, and want to extend your skills with advanced techniques such as pivot tables, macros and what-if analyses. If you also want to combine Excel with Copilot as an option, this course is right for you.

Teaching method

You take this course in the open learning format. This means that on a course day you work through the material independently, at your own pace and at your own level. An experienced trainer is present all day to guide you, answer questions and provide explanations where needed.

At the start of the day you discuss with the trainer what your starting level is and which topics are important to you. This allows you to work specifically on the parts you need in practice. You can also bring your own practical examples, so you can get to work with your own working situation straight away.

Prior knowledge

You already work with Excel regularly and know the basics: formatting cells, creating simple formulas and charts. Experience with functions such as SUM and AVERAGE is useful. No other specific prior knowledge is required to get started.

Comments

You take this course as an open learning day: you work through the material independently and can turn to an experienced trainer at any moment for explanation and feedback. This way you set your own pace and focus on the topics that matter most to you.

Course format

This training is offered on the basis of our Open Learning teaching method. This means that you work independently, with active guidance from our trainer, to master the material. That way you can achieve your learning objectives at your own pace, without being held back by fellow participants working faster or slower. The trainer makes sure that you stay on schedule and meet your learning objectives. This form of learning leaves room for a tailored approach. You have the opportunity to bring in examples from your own practice and IT environment, so that your learning is even more specific. more...

In-company

Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.

Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.

Frequently asked questions

In the Excel Expert course you learn to apply the most advanced features of Excel. You work with pivot tables, advanced formulas and functions, macros, What-If analyses, Goal Seek, Solver and Scenarios. You also learn to exchange data with Word and Access and to link to external databases. Optionally, you can focus on Excel with Microsoft 365 Copilot, so that you use AI in your analyses.

You take the Excel Expert course in the open learning format, and it lasts one day. You work in a small group with personal guidance from an experienced trainer, who tailors the topics and exercises to your level and working situation. This means you cover Excel's advanced features, such as pivot tables, macros and What-If analyses, in a focused way and at a pace that suits you.

For the Excel Expert course you need a solid basic knowledge of Excel. You already work regularly with formulas, functions and formatting, and you can build worksheets independently. Experience with simple pivot tables is an advantage, but not a requirement. Unsure about your level? At the start of the day the trainer will discuss your starting point and adapt the topics and exercises accordingly.

You follow the Excel Expert course in the version you use yourself: Microsoft 365, 2019 or 2016. When booking, you indicate which version you work with. The planners make sure you receive the course materials and exercises that match your version, so you can immediately apply what you learn in your own working environment.

Yes, on completion of the Excel Expert course you will receive an official certificate of participation from Learnit. This certificate confirms that you have mastered advanced Excel skills, such as pivot tables, macros, What-If analyses and database functions. You can add the certificate to your CV or LinkedIn profile to show your Excel expertise to employers and clients.

Yes, the Excel Expert course can also be taken in-company. You then train together with your colleagues at a location of your choice, for example at your office. The content is agreed in advance to match your working situation, so that the exercises tie in with your own Excel files and analyses. For an in-company course, you can request a tailored quotation via the course page.

The Excel Expert course is a good choice if you want to learn how to work with advanced functionality such as pivot tables with related tables, calculated fields, What-If analyses, Goal Seek, Solver, Scenarios and macros. With self-study via YouTube or an online course, you follow a fixed programme and questions about your own working situation often go unanswered. In the open learning format at Learnit, the trainer determines your starting level together with you and tailors the topics and exercises accordingly. You may also bring practical examples from your own work, so that you work directly on familiar issues. Optionally, the course covers Excel in combination with Microsoft 365 Copilot. Choose self-study if you want to look up individual topics; choose this course if you want to reach a coherent expert level in a single day.

The Excel Expert course combines two programmes: 'Excel Pivot Tables, Formulas and Functions' and 'Excel Macros and Working with Other Programs'. This takes you further than a regular advanced course. You work with pivot tables based on related tables, calculated fields, slicers and timelines. You learn to carry out what-if analyses using Goal Seek, Data Table, Solver and Scenarios. Recording, editing and debugging macros are also covered, as are exchanging data with Word and Access and connecting to external databases. Optionally, attention is paid to Excel with Microsoft 365 Copilot. The course is an open learning day: together with the trainer you decide which topics and exercises suit your working situation. An advanced course usually only covers the basics of pivot tables and functions.

The Excel Expert course is intended for people who already use Excel daily and have mastered the basic and intermediate functions, but are running up against limits with larger data sets, complex analyses or repetitive work. Think of controllers, data analysts, finance staff, HR specialists and project managers who build reports, calculate scenarios or want to automate work processes. You will recognise yourself in this if you already know formulas such as SUMIF and VLOOKUP, but do not yet work with pivot tables on related tables, macros, Goal Seek, Solver or What-If analyses. Are you a beginner, or do you only use Excel for simple lists? Then a basics or intermediate course makes more sense. The course is also suitable if you want to link Excel to Word or Access, or optionally want to learn to work with Copilot in Excel.

Yes, Copilot in Excel is covered optionally during the Excel Expert course. Let us know at the start that you would like to work with it and the trainer will adapt the exercises accordingly. You will then learn how to use Microsoft 365 Copilot to analyse data, generate formulas, spot trends in tables and produce summaries of large datasets. It remains an addition to the core of the course: pivot tables, advanced functions, macros and What-If analyses. Copilot only works if your organisation has a Microsoft 365 licence that includes Copilot. If you do not have that licence, the trainer will focus entirely on the regular Excel topics. So you decide for yourself whether Copilot plays a role in your learning objectives.

Most participants apply pivot tables, slicers and basic what-if analyses (Goal Seek, Scenarios) to their own files straight after the course day. That is because in the open learning format you work on exercises that match your level and you may bring in your own practical examples. For more complex parts, such as Solver, calculated fields in pivot tables and macros with absolute and relative references, allow a settling-in period of roughly two to four weeks of regular practice. Compared with self-study, the pace is higher: you get direct feedback from a trainer on your own files, so you spot errors in formulas or database structure more quickly. If you have little time to practise after the course, it will take longer before the advanced functions become routine.

Copilot in Excel is an AI assistant that suggests formulas based on a prompt, recognises patterns in data and generates simple analyses or charts. In the Excel Expert course, working with Copilot is covered optionally, alongside the core content on pivot tables, advanced functions, macros and what-if analyses (Goal Seek, Solver, Scenarios, Data Table). Copilot is strong at quick summaries and suggestions on structured tables. For complex models, calculated fields in pivot tables, macros and data exchange with Access or Word, you still need substantive knowledge to assess and correct the output. The course teaches you both sides: you understand what Excel does under the bonnet and you can use Copilot purposefully to work faster. Whether Copilot is available depends on your Microsoft 365 licence.
