You come out of an interview with a notebook full of notes and still the feeling that you have nothing. The other person has talked for an hour, friendly and at length, but afterwards every answer turns out to dissolve into fog. "It actually went pretty smoothly." "We discussed that with the team." You cannot do anything with it. The problem rarely lay with the other person: it lay in what you had not settled beforehand and in the follow-up question you did not ask.

This free online course is the starter for our full Interview techniques. In the four chapters here you learn to prepare your conversation around information rather than around a subject, you build a guide that genuinely helps you during the conversation, you gain seven question types that you can use deliberately, you learn to probe until you can picture the story, and you write up your material so that it is still usable a month later. Each chapter ends with a short knowledge check, so you notice straight away whether it sticks.

The full course goes on to cover what distinguishes an interview from a conversation, the communication model and the laws of communication, active listening and the obstacles to it, the layout of the room and showing attention, paraphrasing and reflecting feelings, the four interview formats from survey to in-depth interview, emotion and resistance with RET, and the seven pitfalls for the interviewer. Would you like to cover that material with a trainer present, and record and review your own conversations? Then have a look at the Interview Techniques course.

What participants say about Learnit

I found the 'Interview Techniques' course to be good. Nothing to fault. It was also good that Job called beforehand for a short preliminary discussion. You don't see that very often. A very worthwhile course. It also had a strong element of repetition. Plenty of variety, including between theory and practice. Learned a lot, and applied it straight away during the course. And I think these learnings will also help me further when conducting interviews.

We took the Outlook, Teams and OneNote course with Roy Nieuwenhuijzen. Good content, and a few days before the course he got in touch with me (coordinator of the course, head of the secretariat). Pleasant that you can fill in the day itself as needed. The booklet for reference is rather dated, but apparently there is little up-to-date material to be found.

In May 2024 I took the WordPress course. As an IT enthusiast with broad but not necessarily deep knowledge, I wanted to know more about WordPress. How do you install everything and how do you start building a website. This course is extremely well suited to that. From the outset you learn in 3 days how to start a website and what to look out for. I now have a solid basis for getting to work with WordPress and I know my way around the various options. The course is recommended for anyone who wants to learn in three days what WordPress can do and how to apply it.
