In a job interview, every candidate puts their best foot forward. But how do you find out whether someone really fits the role? In this course you sharpen your questioning techniques, learn to interpret signals and keep control of the conversation yourself.
During a job interview, every candidate puts their best foot forward. But how do you find out whether someone is really suitable for the role? And how do you then make a well-founded choice between different candidates?
In this course you learn how to set up job interviews so that you get the right information on the table. You will work with questioning techniques, the STAR(R) method and interpreting non-verbal signals. You will also practise how to initiate, steer and set limits to a conversation, and how to raise doubts about shortcomings in a professional way.
You practise various interview situations with the other participants and receive direct feedback from the trainer. You also consider ethical and legal frameworks: what may and may not be asked, and what may you select on? Afterwards, you conduct job interviews with more structure, sharpness and confidence.
you conduct more effective job interviews, you are better able to assess whether a candidate matches the profile of the vacancy, you keep control of the interview, you know which questions you may and may not ask under current legislation and regulations, you apply the STAR(R) method to bring predictive information to the surface, you recognise your own pitfalls and you know how to remain objective in your judgement.
This course is particularly suitable for HR staff, managers and recruiters who oversee recruitment and selection procedures and regularly conduct job interviews. Do you recognise yourself in one or more of the points below?
You want more knowledge of and insight into systems and structures for conducting good selection interviews, you want to get a clear picture of applicants' potential at an early stage, you want to train yourself in interview skills such as probing and steering a conversation, you are looking for a balance between an inviting and a formal tone.
This list is of course not exhaustive: after all, everyone is different. What would you like to focus on in the area of recruitment and selection?
During the course we alternate between concrete experience, experimenting with behaviour and techniques, reflection and exploring theory. This means the programme suits different types of participants. There is plenty of action: you experience the effect of new behaviour yourself, so you recognise what works. We emphasise that you are responsible for your own development process and take ownership of it. We invite you to reflect continuously and make connections with your own practice. Our aim is to increase your insight and let you make the translation to your own situation. That increases the chance of genuine behavioural change.
You do not need any specific prior knowledge. It is useful, however, if your work involves recruitment and selection, or if you will be conducting job interviews in the near future. That way you can apply what you learn directly to situations you recognise from practice.
Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.
Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.
The training is given in Dutch as standard. The trainer has a good command of English. English-language course material can be used. With a minimum enrolment of 3 participants, the training can also be given entirely in English.
When would you like to start?
At Learnit you will always find a course that takes you further. From (technical) IT skills to communication or personal leadership. You can also choose the training format that suits you best: a classroom course, a tailor-made course at your own office, an online course or an e-learning. We have the right course and the right format for everyone. Because learning in the way that suits you best delivers the best results.
Personal attention and a pleasant atmosphere. Whether you take a course with us, at your office or on your own PC, we make sure you feel at home enough to push your boundaries.
New opportunities arise when you get moving. Stay sharp. Keep taking new steps. We encourage you to take the plunge and really go for it.
Discover something new. Build on your strengths. And choose your own path. We help you grow with training courses and learning formats that genuinely suit you.
We always think in terms of possibilities and win-win. And every day we work on new solutions for tomorrow. By offering training courses that leave you well prepared for the future.
We don't make empty promises. What we do offer is quality, knowledge and experience. A broad range of courses, made possible by our inspired staff and trainers.
We listen to what matters to you. To what you need. Because that is where our solution, our tailored approach, begins. Understanding each other properly and communicating clearly: that is what we believe in.
Taking a training course at Learnit means learning together. Together with your experienced trainer, together with your course group or together with your colleagues. And whether you take the training at home, at your office or at one of our training locations, we are always available to help you. To share our knowledge with you in a way that is genuinely useful to you. Getting further together through personal attention and understanding each other well; that is what we believe in.
Learning theory from a book that you can then hardly use in your work? Not at Learnit! Whichever training you take with us, you can put it to use at your workplace straight away. Because of the unique learning objectives you set together with the trainer at the start of the training. Because of the alternation between theory and (interactive) practical assignments. And by bringing the challenges you face in your daily work along to the training.

What others say about this course
Recruitment and selection: conducting job interviews course reviews - Average rating 8.5 out of 13 reviews
“The recruitment and selection course is really worth recommending. You learn how to use the STAR method to get far more information out of your applicant than they would normally give, because applicants often give the answers to standard questions that you would like to hear. The art is to put situations to them and ask follow-up questions about those, which gives you a much better and more honest picture of your applicant. Great tips and tricks.”
