On a journey towards more self-insight and personal growth. In you work on your communication, break through fixed patterns and shape your future with a concrete action plan. In this way you grow both personally and professionally.

Description

In the Personal Leadership course you work on greater self-insight, stronger communication and taking charge of your own development. You are given tools to better understand your behaviour, your motives and your impact on others.

The first day focuses on communication. You recognise your own style, learn to connect with someone else's style and practise active listening and empathy. On day two you explore your own patterns, emotions and pitfalls. You work on self-awareness, emotional intelligence, giving and receiving constructive feedback and taking ownership.

The third day focuses on your future. You formulate a clear vision, translate it into SMART goals and work on self-discipline, time management and managing expectations. You finish with a personal action plan that you can start using immediately.

The course combines theory with plenty of practice, reflection and interaction in a safe group setting, so that you really experience what new behaviour brings you.

Topics

  • Recognising communication styles and adapting to others
  • Active listening and responding with empathy
  • Self-awareness and emotional intelligence
  • Recognising and breaking your own behavioural patterns
  • Giving and receiving constructive feedback
  • Taking responsibility and ownership
  • Developing a clear personal vision
  • Formulating SMART objectives
  • Managing expectations in difficult conversations
  • The difference between perfectionism and excellence
  • Self-discipline, time management and setting priorities
  • Reflection as a basis for lasting development
  • Drawing up a personal action plan

Result

After this course you know yourself better and you know how to adapt your communication style to that of others. You recognise your own behavioural patterns and can break them, you give and receive constructive feedback and you take responsibility for your own choices and actions.

You have a clear vision of your work and life, translate it into SMART goals and know how to manage expectations in difficult conversations. With your personal action plan in hand, you have a concrete course to keep growing, both professionally and personally.

Target audience

This course is intended for anyone who wants to get to know themselves better and develop their leadership skills:

Supervisors and managers who lead a team and want to strengthen their personal leadership style, employees at every level who want to increase their self-awareness and emotional intelligence, both at work and in private life, entrepreneurs working on their personal growth so they can lead their business with greater direction, HR professionals who want to give self-awareness and personal leadership a place in employee development, and anyone looking for more self-insight, balance and personal growth, regardless of background or role.

In short: if you are prepared to invest in yourself and want to develop personally and professionally, this course is a good fit.

Teaching method

During the course you alternate between concrete experience, experimenting with behaviour and techniques, reflecting and exploring theory. This means the programme suits every type of participant. There is plenty of action: you experience straight away what the effect of new behaviour is, so you recognise success and hold on to it.

You are responsible for your own development process and take ownership of it. We invite you to reflect continuously and to make connections with your own practice. By increasing your insight and letting you make the translation to your own situation yourself, the chance of real behavioural change is greater.

Prior knowledge

No specific prior knowledge is required for this course. An open attitude and the willingness to look at yourself and reflect on your own behaviour are important, however. With that mindset you will get the most out of the three course days.

In-company

Would you like to organise this training for a whole group or several groups? This can be cost-effective. For example, we can tailor the content entirely to your organisation, and training a whole group is also cheaper.

Are you looking at large numbers of participants or a complete academy? That involves a great deal. Consider planning and communication, for example, or identifying and agreeing the objectives and content of the training. Or differences in level, feedback mechanisms and safeguarding. Fortunately, Learnit has extensive experience in this field (more than 25 years) and we are happy to help you through this process.

The nice thing is that you gain a lot of insight into your own behaviour in, for example, a meeting or conversation, but also in negative discussions. The course concludes with a concrete step-by-step plan for your personal and professional development.

An online self-leadership course usually consists of videos, theory and self-reflection assignments that you work through at your own pace. The Personal Leadership course at Learnit is a classroom course of in which you actively practise communication styles, giving and receiving feedback, and setting SMART goals. You work in a small group and take part in role plays in which you receive immediate feedback from the trainer and fellow participants. That element is missing in self-study. The course and concludes with a personal action plan and a certificate of participation. Choose self-study if you mainly want to acquire knowledge. Choose this classroom course if you genuinely want to change behaviour and practise through interaction.

The course suits you if you want to invest in self-insight, communication and behavioural change in a classroom setting, and are prepared to reflect actively on your own patterns. You are a good match if you are a manager, entrepreneur, HR professional or employee who wants more control over their career and behaviour. The course is less suitable if you are mainly looking for hard management techniques, project management tools or purely theoretical depth. The emphasis is on experiencing, experimenting and feedback in a group. No prior knowledge is required. The intake will make clear whether the course fits your situation.

Learnit's Personal Leadership course works with a number of well-known models and methods that you apply one after another in . On day 1 you work with communication styles and active listening, including techniques for tuning in to the style of the person you are speaking with. Day 2 focuses on emotional intelligence, recognising behavioural patterns and giving and receiving constructive feedback. On day 3 you set SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Acceptable, Realistic, Time-bound), work on expectation management and the difference between perfectionism and excellence. You finish with a personal action plan. The approach combines experiencing, experimenting, reflecting and theory. No heavy study material, but practising in a small group under the guidance of an experienced trainer.

That depends on what you take on board. Communication techniques such as adapting to another style, active listening and responding empathically can be applied in conversations straight after day 1. Giving and receiving feedback and recognising your own behavioural patterns, covered on day 2, require more practice; expect a few weeks of conscious application before it feels natural. For deeper changes, such as working on your SMART goals and following your personal action plan from day 3, a horizon of three to six months is realistic. The course lasts and, classroom-based. There is no aftercare programme; behavioural change comes about because you reflect yourself and follow up on the action plan.

The course is taught in a classroom setting in a small group, where you work alongside the same participants throughout. That continuity is deliberate: it builds trust, so that on day 2 you can go deeper into your own behavioural patterns, emotions and blind spots than on day 1. The trainer maintains a safe and supportive environment in which reflection and feedback take centre stage. You practise with role plays and with giving and receiving feedback, so the group is also your practice material. That works differently from an online course: you get immediate mirroring from people who experience you first-hand. How deep you go is up to you. Personal stories stay within the group. Beforehand, an individual intake takes place in which your learning objectives are identified.

A coaching programme is entirely tailored to you and often runs over several months, with sessions of an hour. The Personal Leadership course at Learnit is a classroom-based group course and delivers a broad package of insights and skills in a short time: recognising communication styles, giving and receiving feedback, setting SMART objectives and drawing up a personal action plan. You practise with other participants, receive immediate feedback in role plays and see how your behaviour comes across to others. Something that is missing in a one-to-one setting. Coaching is a better fit for a specific, in-depth personal issue. The course is a better fit if you are looking for structure, models and practical experience to develop your leadership across the board. The two do not exclude one another and complement each other well.
